Default Splitter Rod Mounting

Why do some mount their splitter rods to their bumper? Isn't it better (and safer) to mount to the chassis or the crash beam? And do splitters for our cars have to extend that far in?

Is extending it further in just for it to be able to handle excessive amount of downforce?

I don't see the need to extend splitters so far in when the ZSpeed aluminum shroud does such a great job already

People mount to the bumper because they are clueless. Mine is to my crashbeam, some people do have mounts to the bumper on the sides and if they do it right, it's actually a pass thru to a hard mount.

Length changes downforce, when properly designed. The forward rods are to stabilize the leading edge, keep it from flexing and changing the dynamics .

The Z speed shroud does little in the terms of downforce. Practically nothing compared to a splitter.

but does it matter how much it extends inward? I know outward will change downforce

The way air flows, typically you run it back to the front axle. Further back if rules allow

Mine are attached to the aluminum crash beam. There are already bottom holes with easy access through one of the front bolt holes. Couldn't have been any more simple

i'm about to buy some rods i measured 13" but double checking what is the length of yours?

Yeah that's right. The ones that I ordered were adjustable from 9.7" to 13.2" and they are almost all the way out. If you can find any longer ones I would get those

Through the bumper, when reinforced from the rear can work out just fine...good enough for nascar at least

In this case, the splitter is hard mounted to the chassis via the bumper bar, so the strut rods are just preload and/or to stabilize against fluttering at speed

I chose to upgrade the splitter material to dibond , ( has always been chassis braced and boxed...) so it was much stiffer on its own, and could have the rods mounted internally vs externally, much for the same reasons as above, flutter etc.. I just still need to be able to stand on it to be happy and not be worried about its durability, but I like the idea that it can receive some fairly heavy external damage with out yanking my bumper off etc.
