Where to start-emergency flasher/hazard light does not work.
I just bought a 2007 350Z convertible and along with the center mounted brake light not working, the hazard lights don't come on or flash. However, the turn signals flash just fine. The hazard button seems to operate OK, but no results. The regular taillight/brake light units work just fine.
I am under the impression that the same flasher unit controls the turn signal flashing and the causes the blinking action when the hazard lights are on. Am I wrong in my reasoning, or is that a true assumption. I really don't want to pull the center console to look at the wiring going to the flasher's on/off button if I can avoid it, meaning that the cause is actually some place else. Anybody got any experience dealing with similar issues and can point me in the right direction?

Reason: Left out year of vehicle in case it's pertinent.
I haven't had this issue, but speaking from previous repairs on other cars:
Check Fuses?
Could be flasher relay?
Could be the switch itself?
It doesn't sound like you have much of an option as far as removing the counsel to make sure the switch is plugged in and has voltage going to it. If it has voltage to the switch, all you need is a new one. If it doesn't have voltage to the switch, I'd check the fuse/relay
Well, it's hard to even begin to check the fuse/relay because the fuses don't appear to be labeled with anything that mentions hazard light, or emergency flasher, or anything of that sort. I did my best to check all the fuses even though they didn't appear to be labeled for that and everything I could find checked out, both by the driver's door and under the hood. So, unless there's some place else I need to look it doesn't appear to be fuse related. I was surprised that the owner's manual doesn't have a better diagram of fuse locations. Bad Nissan!
Well, if your turn signals work just fine then the problem is the switch itself, the BCM, or a short in the wiring (pinched or broken wire to ground) I would start with the easiest thing, checking continuity in the switch itself. Hope this helps
It takes about 3 minutes to get to that hazard switch. If you don't want to do it, then I'm guessing that a local shop would be happy to take $100 from you for the honors.
It's not the three minutes to get to it, it's all the work I want to do once I remove that center console/dashboard cover, which I know will en up taking way mroe time since it will involve some repainting, vent replacement and much, much more...and I don't want to remove it several times for fear of breaking the tabs or something else.

What would you have to repaint from removing the center console? or do you mean you want to paint your interior trim regardless? I also want to throw in that when I purchased my car, I had the center console and "arm rest" area out at least 4 times haha, tabs are pretty sturdy (my Z is my "beater" so I am by no means gentle with removing trim pieces, I also have a plastic welder worst case scenario) just give it a good quick tug after removing the screws. Plenty of DIY's on the forums if you need something to reference.
