Very nice Watkins, how hard was it changing the bulbs? Did you already have the HID on your car already or did you have just regular halogen bulbs? I want to change mine as well but I dont know how to do it.

If our lights were fully enclosed in a projector, the light emitted from the bottom of the bulb would reflect up, (since no metal strip on bottom of D2S bulb) hit the lens, and refract either straight ahead or down. D2S will only cause glare to other drivers in a reflector only housing, which will make you think that you have brighter lights.

Haven't you ever seen halogen equiped cars with lights not adjusted properly? They blind oncoming traffic, but it looks brighter because you see all the light shining in your face.

Here are some drawings I made and they're pretty self-explainatory. Keep in mind I do not know the dimensions inside the 350Z light housing so I don't know what % of light would shine out and upward of the housing when using D2S. These are only to get the point across. Also, the lens on the 350Z housing will reduce the glare with a D2S bulb compared to an all reflector housing with a D2S bulb.

LOL Nice drawing!!!

That's the "prettier" color outcome I am looking for on my DB Z...what brand bulbs, how much, and from where if you don't mind me asking?? I like the bluish/whitish color similar to what the stock HID's have when they are first ignited.

I'm getting alot of mixed info from different websites such as the aformentioned:

www.motionr.com
www.hidking.com
www.misterjung.com
www.plasmagarage.com

Has anyone dealt with any of the three below listed HID D2R bulb retailers?? Every website has a different definition of 8000K and 6000K...Some say 6000K is purple some say blue and vice versa. I'm also weary about HID King because although good price, a "universal" bulb that fits both D2R and D2S housings concerns me. What happened to this ceramic paint on the base of the D2R that differentiates the two? I want to get this right. I enjoyed the mostly bluish (agreed not functional) 8000K color Taiwanese/Japanes HID kit (manufactured by Hanabi/NewTech International)I had on my previous 98 Toyota Corolla.

Peace all...

Fake HID bulbs? I'm using MotionR 6000k D2S on my Porsches. They're the best in the market. They perform better & cost less than Philips.

ok guys apparently NONE f you have any real knowledge when it comes to HID's.

1.>>>the guy who posted www.motionr.com was the way to go. Is a complete MORON. Those are FAKE HID BULBS .

2. the stock HID bulbs are i believe closer to 4300k. And the reason the s2k and M3 have bluer appearance is because the Fully enclosed projector lenses.

3. D2s & D2r.....if you upgrade i suggest going to D2s. especially with the 350Z headlights. Much will be much brighter in my expeirence.

4. the whole increase Lumens= less visiblity. Is scientifically correct. But i have upgraded on IS300 an not noticed any brightness difference at all. If anything my visibility went up. Actually people are always flashing lights at me now because of the brightness.

if you upgrade to 6000k......the best manufacturer is by far PHILLIPs.

i wouldnt purchase anything else!

Higher Lumens = More visibility
Higher Color temp = less lumens = less visibility.

Don't listen to this newbie. He doesn't know anything about HID.

The bulb swap was a piece of cake, seriously. The only real effort is jacking the car up and pulling out the inner fenderwells to gain access to the bulbs. As for a full swap, you can run the search, and there are a couple of how-to's complete with pictures, and if you buy the whole plug and play kit, its ridiculously easy from the looks of things.

Phillips Ultinon (sp) bulbs, and the cost was about $150.00 from a vendor off of Ebay, (and I can't remember the sellers name, but he has 100% positive feeback in the three years he has been with Ebay) I will see if I can get the information about him and add it onto this thread.

haha you find ONE miss print in my response trying to help these people and then you act like i KNOW nothing!

go ahead everybody go to Motionr.com and BUY FAKE HIDs

here are a few Quotes from this morons MotionR site.

1. "Combining Super White Technology with high power halogen bulb. "

2."Our latest technology provides the closest thing to super-intense H.I.D. lighting you have seen on the high-end imports and domestics! "

these are HALOGEN bulbs

oh **** i get halfway through that guys motionR site....and then notice that there is one REAL HID bulb at the VERY bottom of the page.

so i apologize for Bashing that site.

but i would still be very weary of a site that sells the cheap fake ****....and the fact that the real HID bulb they carry is only $95.

Phillips is around $200.00

buy Phillips thats all the best advice i can give!!

It's hard to find Philips 6000K HID bulbs since no car manfacturer uses any HIDs over the 4000-5000K range. They do make some, but not many, so it'll be hard to find. Most will be rip offs of Philips and just rebranded. E-mail or call the people at www.suvlights.com and ask if they can get you a set. They've been around for a while if that help.

Yeah please do because when it comes to HIDs I can sense a lot of BS blue painted Halogens floating around on Ebay and such. I just don't really trust Ebay vendors for the most part and half of these websites feel very amature in nature. I am curious why Bulletproof or MVP motorsports don't sell higher temp HID bulbs. ::Shrug:::

bgwillyis300, I think the other site you're thinking of is www.HIDs4less.com. They shut down operations because the government made aftermarket HIDs illegal.

You wont find Philips 6000k bulbs because Philips doesnt make 6000k bulbs. Anyone claiming to sell Philips is 6000k has rebased the bulb and is most likely a cheap Korean ripoff. MisterJung is a scam. He's stolen money from bimmerforum members and numerous other forums. And to say a bulb is "The best in the market" is pretty generic. There are plenty of good brands, pick the one that suits you.

The higher the lumens to more visibility. Stock halogens are around 800 lumens. A good 5000k kit can put out around 3000 lumens. I have a 6000k kit in my M3 that puts out about 2800 lumens.
