Might wanna pm bmccan101 about his experience wo pins. Hood flexed on hwy and unlatched at speed, flew back and smashed the windshield. I don't recall which brand. 02

Exactly, I stopped driving as fast as I used to. The Varis hood is pretty beefy around the latch but I just don't trust it. You can see it flutter as soon as you pass 50mph.
most of the tuner cars in Japan used the Varis without pins but I don't know how fast they are getting on their tracks. The thing is pretty nerve wrecking at 80+

Hey Blue, do you have your MCR hood secured with hood pins?

This information is off the Bulletproof website. Hence why you rarely see the MCR hood with hood pins.

“FRP construction shaves weight compared to the OEM hood and is easy for a skilled bodyshop to paint match. This hood also features an OEM style latch system for those prefering to not use an aftermarket system to secure it for everyday use.”

Dude most brand name hoods do, like I said I have yet to see any Varis owners use them either and they are usually track cars since they are functional. Up to you ultimately, what's your level of comfort with risk. I've had the varis hood for almost 2 years I think, it's been fine, but I also went from hitting triple digit speeds every time I drove the car to now rarely going above 80mph. The hoods will flex more than OEM there's no fighting that without pins, whether it comes up or not I can only imagine it can't handle that flexing forever. If you don't drive fast the you don't need them, if you do I'd highly recommend them.

Again, well made, doesn't mean I trust the constant flex at high speeds.

thanks for all the advice and input. My car is a bit of a garage queen so I’ll probably be fine. These days I’m doing a bit more city driving but will watch my speeds on the highway.

No problem, I never really ran into info when I did the switch. Sometimes I wish I would've known all the details ahead of time.

3rd Z had no hood latches and was vortech supercharged which means it didn't see much less than 140+ daily. My current garage queen which has hit speeds of 160+ also has a cheap Amazon aftermarket hood with FACTORY hood latchment. This extra latches look cute though

Thanks Blue.

I’m not going to bother with the hood pins. My car is a weekend driver and does not see the track.

UPDATE: my MCR hood is being shipped from Japan and should arrive in 2-4 days.

This will most likely be the only authentic MCR hood in Canada.

A huge relief to open the box and find that this beautiful hood arrived unscathed. Thank you DHL air express.
