I have a 2004 Nissan Roadster. It has a soft top that had a tear in it. So i have tried to replace it twice now. I am encountering significant issues trying to get a soft top that will work properly.
All the manufactures on Amazon/Ebay state that they fit 2003-2009 models. Is there a way to figure out which ones will fit and which wont? The sellers all seem to think they fit all the models but I can confirm that is not the case....
The first one had a piece of fabric that was 3ish inches too short and would not wrap over the bar at the back. I got to the end of install and couldn't finish it. Pics included.
I got the second one and measured it before install and the issue the first one had was resolved. However I attempted to put on the 2nd one and it doesn't quite fit... It is kinda short at the bottom as the pictures show. While it fits okay through most of it, it dosnt do it properly at the back corners...
I'm really tired of putting them on and getting to the end to figure out they wont work properly. There certainly seems to be many different fitments for these soft tops which the manufactures dont seem to be aware of. It is a lengthy job to install them. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this? Thanks
The first one i bought had this piece of fabric that was too short to reach the Velcro and cover the bar at the back The one that came off my car was able to wrap back around to the bar at the back. The second one i got seemed to work good until i got to the last step of screwing the back together. It mostly fits but as can be seen it seems to be too short in the back corners. Pulling it tight and drilling some holes helps but it also makes it very tight for the motor to close. What manufacturers or brands were the two soft top replacements that you tried?
The top should be the same across all model years of the ZR (03-09). I don't think it's an issue of getting a top for the wrong year, but likely poor craftsmanship from the manufacturer.
Hopefully you were able to return them and get your money back.
I replaced my top with a Robbins (formerly Haartz) Stayfast canvas top. Yes, it is almost 3x the amount of the first top you used and close to $1,300, but fitment was perfect and the canvas material is much better than the OEM style twill vinyl. I believe others here have used the same replacement and don't report the issues you're having.
Sometimes you gotta pay a little more to get quality.
I returned the first one and issued a return request for the second one this morning. Is Robbins in USD? If so that is around $1,8000 in CAD. I only paid $8,000 CAD for the car which makes this a very expensive option.
Yeah, USD. There are some listings on eBay that claim to be the Haartz Stayfast cloth at about $550 (USD). Caveat emptor when buying on the fleabay, though.
