Default Philips Ultinon - 5000K ... ??

Does anybody have these ? Looks like the ticket...

I am looking for some sharper lighting than the OEM 4100K... but not the 6000K that are lower on the lumen chart.

Always found it interesting that.. when turning on the headlights.. great white, very sharp and easy to see color.... but then the color fades to normal white/yellow once the 4100K's get warmed up.

TXSTYLE did a good write up about them a while back. You might try a search for "ultinon"

I have them but i went from the base headlights, so I can't really do a comparison between stock HID's and Ultinons. That little picture in your post is pretty good representation of how they look - both in the housing and on the ground.

How much are these bulbs and where can I buy them online? I know you can't buy HID kits/bulbs in the states but there has to be a site online that will sell them anyways, heh.

You can get Philips HID replacement bulbs over the Ebay.
Also, FairladyZ in Japan, since you live in Japan, you would have an access to a lot more variety of HID bulbs. Why don't you try Bellof? It's the best HID bulb you can get. I'm pretty sure they have 5000K too. Well, it's expensive as hell, but it might worth it. I've seen Bellof HID in person and they are bright as hell. And the color is damn sharp and crystal clear.

Be careful when you shop on Ebay. Many people sell poor quality bulbs which won't last long.

The higher the HID number 4100K, 5000k, 6000k....means? The higher the most blueish? Anyone have a color chart?

The higher you go, the more purplish it gets. But also know that the more purplish, the more visibility you lose. Anything more than 6000K IMO is only for show. I have 10,000K bulbs on my s2000 (projector lamps) and I can notice the loss of visibility at night, but the color of the bulb is really cool.

Here's a picture I found on a previous thread. If you continue to go up in temperature, it will start to become purple (at around 10,000K). Also, after around 4,200-4,500K, the lumens (light intensity) starts to drop off. The only way to increase the light intensity would to increase the power from 35W to something like 50W, which no one does for HIDs.

great info. That's why stock bulbs are 4100-4300K.

Thanks dude! From the chart, I think 5000k will be the most reasonable choice. Keep the visibility with a tad of color. Anyone have a picture of what 5000k will look alike in real life?

That site you posted has been the most informative I've ever found. They answered that question about 100W 10,000K bulb. I've seen pictures of cars with HIDs and then seen them in person and the the pictures always add a tint of blue. The 350Z has looked blue to me in pictures, but in person it's just white.

Some people have shown me their HIDs side by side at my house. One was a stock Lexus IS300, which uses Panasonic 4,300K, and the other was an RSX with aftermarket 6,000k I believe. Even though the 6,000K didn't shine as far as the 4,300k (it had a lot of glare), it made the 4,300K look like halogen. I've been thinking about 6,000K, but the companies I wanted to buy them from just went out of business because of new regulations against HIDs (HIDs4less.com and suvlights.com)

As far as what kind of ballast the 350Z uses, I don't know about that. I think you can just change out the bulb and not the ballast since you already have an HID system.

Phatmitzu... agree with NismoKid... that site is excellent ... practically everything you ever wanted to know about HID's.

Thanks.
