I have considered powder coating my factory rims black and was looking for opinions on this. My Z is black(for 15 min after I wash it). If anyone has had this done to their rims, what kind of price am I looking at? Or does anyone know of any 17" black rims that look good on our car for around the same price? Thanks
Stripping and powdercoating all four wheels will probably cost from $200-$400 I don't know of anyone who has done this to the stock 17" wheels. There's someone who did it to 18" wheels. There are even pictures in one of the threads here.

Another question, on a black car, would the rims look better gloss or matte black? I also read something about putting a clear coat on the rims? good idea?
actually clear coat over a powder coat is good... never heard of brake pads eating it away. I also had no idea they still put asbestos in pads, you sure about that? they try to stay away from that stuff these days...
most factory and aftermarket rims have a clearcoat.
powdercoats are nice and durable to impact, but not so much to chemicals, oil on the road, or even wax is not so safe for powdercoat, but paint(clear paint) protects the powder coat from these things so you can treat your rims like youd treat any other painted part of your car.

Huh??? Powdercoat not resistant to chemicals??? I've been using powdercoat in engine bays for years. The powdercoat was exposed to engine oils, gasoline, brake fluid etc and never had a problem. The only reason I could imagine putting a clear coat on powdercoat would be if you used a metallic flake in it to resist oxidation.
AFAIK brake pads do not contain asbestos anymore.
