Default Time to take it to the next level....

Getting to be too many Z's out there, folks. I love my car too much to just get something else, so i'm gonna have to get to work making mine distinctive i guess. if i can't be "the guy with a Z", because there are lots of guys with Z's, i'll just have to be "the guy with THAT Z". I've had mine for almost a year now, and to this point i've focused completely on performance mods. from the outside, with the exception of the rims, it looks pretty much stock. So now it's time to shift gears and get to work on the body. And one of the big things i've been thinking of is paint. Now here comes the group participation part: Think about NON-OEM colors that a Z would look good in. nothing loud (example: dukes-of-hazard "a$$hole orange". i was thinking maybe some shade of green. but i'm open to suggestion, so everbody feel free to chime in. As a side note, no decals or graphics. i don't like the idea of putting stickers on my car, and i'm DEFINITELY not going to put someone's name on a vehicle that i busted my butt working on unless they pay me or supply parts for free.

I have been thinking about the diablo orange lately, that might look good. Or what might look cool is the royal saphire pearl from the toyota supra with some extra pearl so it really glistens.

I think a dark blue would look really good on the Z. Esp if you got pearl effect paint it would look unbelievable. I haven't seen a dark blue Z yet.

I've seen a lot of talk about dark green, but I'm not convinced it would suit the Z.

The other color that might look hot is a true burgundy...the brick is great, but I'm talking about something more normal..although people may confuse it with the brick.

you know, i was thinking about both of those colors this morning. the blue would have to be a lot darker than DB, too. And i see what you're saying about burgundy getting confused for the brickyard, but you know, i haven't seen many brickyards around. i think they only offered 03's in that color. too bad too, because that is a gorgeous color.

I would consider a nice rich dark blue like the Porsche Dark Blue. The 911's look fabulous in that color and I think the Z would also. Only thing is dark colors on the Z seem to hide too many of the curves and contours of the body that make it so distinguished. I love black cars but on the Z it seems to hide too much for me. Also how much are you looking to spend? Obviously I would shy away from a high pearl paint, i.e. the Lambo Orange, though it could look awesome, if the paint job is only going to be average. Are you going to do any body work? Maybe we could get a better idea of what you want the finished product to look like so we could help more. I know you said nothing too flashy but how about that peacock blue that goes from a rich dark blue to a brilliant green depending on the angle?

F&F lime green.

Seriously, yellow looks good on the Z. I do think a nice dark blue would look good. Look into the Monte Carlo Blue or whatever it is on the Euro s2000.

I actually saw a Z in dark green, owned by an older fella. I approached the guy and asked what color is it and he said its British Green. I think it looked really good. He asked me what color I repainted mine . I said it's Brickyard red .

hmm.. think you guys might be on track with the dark blue. as far as body work, i'm definitely going to put on either a nismo wing or one offered by carbon creations (i think is called N-1, but don't quote me on that). both of those wings are kinda conservative and, i think, compliment the Z's contours around the tail. for rest of the body, i've seen a few kits i like, but haven't really locked on to anything. not gonna do orange or yellow. sorry, but loud colors like that just aren't my thing.

Lambo green, since mine is lambo orange, so it would be cool to see a lambo green one.

ugh. no, dude, you're not hearing me. taste, man, taste. lambo's can be crazy colors like lambo green and lambo red for exactly that reason - THEY'RE LAMBOS. they look good in primer. if you painted polka dots on one, people would be running arounds saying "man, those lambo spots are the ****!"
i don't own a lambo. as we've all seen, it's very possible to make a Z look cheap or obnoxious. i appreciate the input, i really do, but let me restate myself: No silhouettes of dudes with swords, no performance sticker mosaics, and no colors that they use in construction worker safety vests.

You said you wanna be know as "that z"... well I was just putting a little spice into this thread for ideas for the "thats wicked" and for the "not even on my grandmas car". Now we are starting to know what you want I know you wanted maybe some shade of green, well its not this shade of green What other colors would you like to see , give us little more details to work on, like also how much do you want to spend and would you like matalic, pearl, or candy type paints. I have a car paint guide in hand and it has over 65 different greens in it, thats just in this book. I was in the same postion as you 6 months ago and went crazy trying to decide what color to paint my car and went with my favorite color(orange), which its a color you dont want to see on your car . Well, I think I just helped a little bit to get you better input for your car, I hope . Anyways, I'll keep watching this thread to see what you go with, good luck buddy

Give me one more chance with a blue that just happens to be on a lambo

I got out of all those tickets because they were ********. I got 2 pullovers for speeding: one I was going 5 over, and the other the cop heard my exhaust was loud so he thought I was speeding and neither could do shiit. The others were for tint, having dealer plates and just for no damn reason.

Cops really love to pull you over because you drive a loud, fast car!!

actually, yeah, i like that blue. i think i mentioned the possibility of a light blue earlier. i'd want it maybe a little more metallic, but that's definitely a strong possibility (even though it's on a lambo ). hey, rayden, wasn't trying to slam on you, i know you're trying to help. i think maybe my post came out a little harsh. but you feel me about the loudness? my intent is going to be to work slowly and progressively on this car, and in the long run keep it for 10, 15 years, maybe more. i want a look that's going to endure that kind of timeline, something classic. here's a good example: if you get a chance, check out this month's issue of "modified". mainly ricers in there, i know, but look at that '94 supra. that guy's got exactly the kind of intent i've got, a car with crazy hp but still with driveability. not a decal or neon light to be found on it, but just looking at it you know it's far from your stock supra. you just kinda feel it. the paint is subdued but quality, the body kit and wing compliment the car perfectly.
Ok, now let me be more specific. money? not an issue. it's not that i'm loaded, but since i plan on keeping this car for a long time, if the paint i decide i wan is expensive, i'll just save longer to get it. i'm not on a timeline that's measured in weeks or months. i'm aware that some of, say, the top-end candy style paint jobs can run up towards 8k. if that's the way i decide to go, so be it. it'll just take time and i've got that. if i choose a cheaper paint, it's because i like it, not because of cost restrictions. thanks to all for your suggestions, and please, keep them coming.
