Well there are other options, just wanted to make sure this isn't one of them before buying (hopefully this week).
www.350zforums.org have a new self made one (IPDF) which they claim they sold 5 of at $399 each, but have now pictures of fittment on car, and no other info...
www.varisusa.com also offer theirs at ~$1100 but theirs is a tried and tested product with a good reputation and quality.
I was hoping the fiberimages hatch would fit in somewhere in between the two, or even closer to the Varis, but at least it would be local (Varis has to come from Japan) and should be lighter and better fit than the "350zforums" one.
of course there is also the Amuse Dry Carbon stuff... which I won't even look at anymore (the price just scares me)!

Does anyone know the difference between the different hatches Varis has available? They have Carbon Fiber, Carbon Kevlar, and Full Carbon. Does that mean the Carbon Fiber and Carbon Kevlar ones are Fiberglass with CF overlays?

If we are talking no more then 6-10 weeks then I am confident we can get a good number of people who will be patient enough.
The main thing is to give realistic dates, and some updates.
Also I am sure you are sick of hearing it, but many people would still love to see the fenders, and front bumper go into production as well... is it too early to work these into the group buy as well?
Thanks Cheston, and let me know if you need any help organizing any of this.

thanks for the help jeff-
i'd say if we do 10, its a definate shoe in.. i mean they just have to recover the cost of making the molds.
realistically. from start to finish, i'd say 3 weeks for the mold, and 3 days for each hatch to be made.
as for price? i'd say probably less than 500 each @ cost...
as far as the Kevlar, well it IS technically stronger, not just for the looks... as far as the hatch i am trying them to make is just out of CF, with a sandwiched honeycomb for support for a wing (mine) but i'm sure they can make it with and without the sandwich.
they make good stuff. im just disappointed with their speed of things..
last line is: money talks.. if i get everyone who wants a hatch to commit like maybe $200 down and the rest later, im sure we can get a hatch before thanksgiving.
?? any thoughts? help would be appreciated... im no longer available on this forum all the time (*work found out. doh! haha *)
thanks --Cheston

I am willing to help organize the group buy. I saw the final product on James car and it looks great, so I have no doubts about the quality. I will not run a wing, but unless it affects pricing/weight dramatically I don't see a reason for not making all pieces w/ the additional support.
The question is do we take peoples money now, or wait until after SEMA so that the wait is shorter?

I've seen one hatch, I don't remember name, wich was just a cf layed over stock hatch. Just for looks, heavier than stock. I'm not sure if it was Varis or not. But the difference in price between cf and "full carbon" (what the hell it is?) suggest that first isn't really gonna give you weight savings. Also absence of weight information (or any other specs) on Varis site is dissapointing.

It all depends on quality for me. If it has the supports to mount the stock glass, brake light assembly, and the stock latch, doesn't have any fitment/operation issues, and it's significantly lighter than stock, I'm in. Oh, and it has to look identical to stock. I don't want the lines of the car to change.

Cheston, let them know that they have a product that will sell here. There are at least a dozen of us waiting for this. I would give you money tomorrow if you told me they were done and ready to ship. However, I have been on 'prototype' buys before on products that were simply never made. Let me know if 100% these are going to be distributed and I have no problem with a down payment. Just don't tell me it will be 3 months if it will be a year and a half
