Nismo DIY?
No photos, but here goes.
Go get a second cap from the dealer. They sell for like $11.00.
Cut and epoxy the back up cap not your original.
Try to fit the Nismo cover over the cap. See the first lip where the cap catchs? You will need to cut that lip off completely.
You can use a grinder, dremmel , whatever you want. I used a old cheap soldering iron that I was throwing away to melt it off.
Basically remove all the plastic lip so that the cover will now land on the lower lip and that it covers the whole cap top.
Get some epoxy, mix it up and slather the inside of the cover, and on the top of the cap. Then put the cap and cover together, tighten the screws. remove any excess epoxy that may ooze around the edges before it gets hard.
Leave the cap and cover together for a day and let the epoxy cure. When you can no longer twist the cover and see any movement, the epoxy is cured. Then swap the nismo for your OEM.
Easy as pie.
Take Care.

Dont know about the 04 cap, but I wonder if the 03 will fit also as well. Nissan may have just had to up the price due to supplier cost, and it may well be the same. I dont really know.
I just found a pic of a finished product. If you really need a pic of the oem cap I can get one.
I dont know if the dealer has them in stock, I bet it would depend on the size of the dealership. But it cant take but a two or three days on order.
I also have comtemplated exchanging the white portion of the z to the standard black cap top but never got around to testing it.
Truthfully if it take 10 to 20 minutes to grind and cut the oem cap to fit , then why bother with anything esle?
hope this all helps.
PS Maybe I should get me some caps and covers and go into business? Just kidding.

Nismo cap
Luckily I found this pic on an old thread. Not my pic/captions but somehow very appropriate.
See the cover comes down to the cap's lower lip, after removing the upper lip.
After your ground down the cap upper lip the cover will go all the way down. Epoxy the cover to the cap and let it cure. Then You are in business.
But after you go to all the trouble, please remember to pick it up off the fuel pump before you drive away. Ha ha..

I just did mine... i didnt want to buy another set for $32 bucks so i just took a chance... i didnt cut the first lip (as mentioned above)... but rather, i sanded it down until it was flushed in the Nismo cap... (took a while tho')
Then i slapped on some epoxy... and i used some 50 cent plsatic clamps i bought from home depot... i used 4 of them but i think 2 will do... i just let it settle and conform for about one hour... and voila...
heres a pix of it on the tank...
