If you wish to mount the shoulder belts CORRECTLY, you will need a harness bar. Mounting the belts to the trunk floor will cause spinal compression.....NOT a good thing. Wrapping them around the rear strut brace is also a no-no. It's designed for lateral compression loads, not the pulling forces a shoulder harness would subject it to.

So that limits your choice to a BCR harness bar, or a PROPERLY designed roll bar/cage.

here is how I did it....

I purchased the Avalon bar thinking that it would fit my Takata, but it doesn't.

So I have to mount it here...check the pic.

Its very safe because:

during one of my trip to the track, a BMW driving school instructor drove my car and I asked him.

P.S. Not very satisfied with the quality of the Avalon Racing Harness bar. The bar is a bit too short, it creates a space where the end of the bar meets the b-pillar. It does look good however...$500 cdn good.

the harness comes with two "fish eye" bolts (not sure if that's what they called it).

But I drill two holes right on the panel, and applied a little Loctite before I screwed the screw in.

After you simply cut a "cross shape hole on your plastic panel to able the screw to fit with your plastic cover on.

Aren't you worried about spinal compression with the placement of that harness?

Exactly how I did mine.

And I added the Sparco Harness Reinforcement Plates in the back of the frame.

Well, it's the excessive compression of the spinal column. With belts attached as you have shown, an impact would force the shoulder forward, but, because of the low attachment point, the shoulder would also be forced DOWN, compressing the spine.

NOT a good thing, other than for doctors!

As a reference, every production car I have seen has the shoulder belts attached near the occupants shoulder height.

Anything worth doing is worth doing right. That's why I designed and had built my BCR harness bar.

Of course, I'm sharing!

I would really be concerned with Phatmitzu's setup since the mounting point is very low. The only thing that may be a negating factor is where the belt comes through the seat itself. If that is at should height, I would think that you would be ok (provided the seat does not collapse)...

Interesting. I never knew that.

Yeah, the 2 passways for the harness on the Bride seats actually is a lot higher than my shoulders. The harnesses comes down just below my earlob arear. I am 5'4....so I sit kinda low.
