“ theSTIguy” is on my ignore list, but when I view “Get recent posts,” I still see threads started by theSTIguy. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get rid of his (her) posts?

You're not doing anything wrong. It will display that there is a thread by the person, also in threads, you will see that they posted, however when you try to view the thread, you won't see the post (unless you click on a link to view it, which in my experience, has only reaffirmed why I put that person on my list in the first place).
