Default my350z SEARCH feature

After numerous failed attempts searching this website in the past, i decided to make a thread.

The SEARCH feature on this website is BY FAR the worst search engine on any forum i have belonged to.

For example my previous forums (300zxclub.com and TT.net) had great search engines which found exactly what your looking for. Which is why we there hated when people asked questions which were answered over and over again.

But how can we hate on the newbs here who dont search first. Even if they did they would likely not find exactly what there looking for witout going through a bunch of pages.

Does anyone agree with me on this?

A few people from the site that i know fully agree.

Ex. The search i just did was "How to install Side Markers"

On my previous website, you would search for that and the first thread you would see would be a write up. I just went thru the 1st 5 pages of the results and found NOTHING. Meanwhile i came across multiple other threads which had nothing to do wit sidemarkers.

Ok im done now, thanks

Please work on this!!

um, this topic has been discussed in here numerous times. I even posted a tutorial on how to properly use the search feature:

click search and then click on the advanced search feature. type in the keywords you are looking for and hit the portion that says thread titles. then go over to the forum list that shows each subsection. find the one that covers the particular topic you are looking for. once you find that section hit the search now. it basically searches only those threads you requested in that particular subforum, clearing out some of the clutter. try it

go to the advanced search, click it
type the keyword INVIDIA and select search titles only
go over to the subforum list and select INTAKE AND EXHAUST
now click the SEARCH NOW button

you will find 89 threads covering INVIDIA exhausts, from "which one is better" to "how do you install it". you can also see how many times a similar question is asked over and over again because everyone claims the search doesn't work. to me it works fine. want some real fun, do the same thing with VORTECH as the keywords and select the forced induction section. 997 threads on that topic alone, would make for a lot of reading an studying

so nothing is wrong with the search if properly used. though the quick search is horrible that is why I never use it.

Ok so nothings wrong its just BAD.

Look at all those instructions which u shouldnt have to do.

Go to 300zxclub and do a search, you will see what I mean

Ill stop asking questions but step up and get a better one. it sucks!!!

and BTW, i did it the way u said and didnt see anything for 5 pages, yea it works real good!!!

Here's an even better idea and you don't have to search. Try browsing the DIY forum on Interior, Exterior and Lighting....

https://my350z.com/forum/forumdispla...ysprune=&f=460

I saw several references to "corner markers" or lights.

BTW - I know of several other 350Z sites that have worse search and no "structure" to their forums so it's basically impossible to find anything but the current stuff you can read through.

I've offered to develop and host a search engine with google-quality results, but not much interest from the admins I guess. The thread is here:

Next time use advanced, Boolean, more than 2 posts.
I searched Corner or Side and Marker.. 44 results and plenty of info. I didn't even bother to choose which subforums to look into...

Site is organized well but search could be improved.

Can't defend poor functionality out of site loyalty.

I use the search feature all the time and although sometimes it's very frustrating to have to dig through a bunch of pages to get what I need, for the most part it works fine. I just wish people would use more descriptive thread titles when they start a new thread, so that people who may need that info would be able to easily find it.

Funny that you mention that. I created a thread in this section awhile back suggesting it become a requirment to include a description with key words in the title as to what the thread entailed.
https://my350z.com/forum/feedback-and-suggestions-for-our-forum/265698-good-idea-or-bad-idea-to-solve-problems-with-misleading-threads.html

It didn't seem to take effect. I still see n00b threads titled: "OMG I need.....", "Need Help ASAP", "This is what I saw..." , ect, ect. While these threads may hold valuable information, they will continue to be overlooked because of their thread title description.

One remedy I propose to fix this is have a mod close the poster's thread and leave an explaination at the bottom. The explaination should advise the OP to properly title his/her thread upon initiation. By locking the thread and leaving a reason, all who read will make mental notes to themselves that they should begin wording their threads properly or face it being locked.

I want to bump this cause i wish this place would let you search two words.

IE if i search cold intake....it results in post with just cold...like cold spark plugs etc......it is highly annoying especially for a sponsered site

enable boolean searching, then use the AND operator

In my 2 1/2 years here I've only had 10 questions total that I could not find using a basic search. Take into consideration that some of these questions were back in 2005 when all the 2003 model's quirks hadn't even been figured out yet, there were no "top 100 questions" stickies, no DIY section, and no Maintenance section either. Hell, one of the questions didn't even pertain to the 350Z. I search and search until I find answers, and don't use the boolean feature.

Not being able to locate info on this site is not due to a misfunctioning search engine, it's a lack of initiative on the searcher's behalf. Read the GDMFT's and stop being so focking lazy. The info is there, it won't be spoon fed like momma popping her titty in one's mouth....

Answer is there...you just have to go through countless of useless threads, sucks but it's better than getting flame by the search police

+1 to vo

just because the website does not have the GOOGLE engine doesn't mean search doesn't work...

don't blame your failure at the internets on the website

Default Find all new 'threads' created since xx/xx/xx ?

Is there a way to search/find all 'threads' (not posts) created since a specified date?

ie. I know there are new threads in the Vendor Marketplace-Wheels forum, but, there are 20 threads with new 'posts' that show up at the top. Can I find the new threads that have been created since 2 days ago?
