Default Good Idea or Bad Idea to Solve Problems With Misleading Threads?

This applies to the technical sections:

An addition to the TOU. All threads created that do not have a title that in someway describes the content of the thread, are subject to deletion by the moderators. How many times do we see a thread titled, "Noob question, thinking about..., need opinions, or Urgent!!Need Help!!".

One of the main culprits of the search function not properly finding useful threads to answer noob's questions, is because their titles have no key words to correctly identify the content of the thread. As the domino effect continues, noobs & sometimes not so noobs persist to create threads lacking search worthy keywords , futher hindering their ability to find usefull technical information on their own.

I will list a few threads I have seen recently that meet the criteria. Note* I'm am not specifically pointing out anyone on purpose, I'm just supplying some evidence.

This angers me too when I go to search for helpful threads. I guess I should just start searching for "Help"

I agree. Unless I am on 24/7 some useful threads might slip through the cracks because the search will not pick them up. Have anybody here ever try to look for something that has a wide topic range like say "brakes" but had the search look through the entire thread? Good luck with that. The title search is faster but useless in a sense with pooring titled threads.

Unfortunately, you can't enforce common sense. It's hard enough to get people to post in the correct forums, and now you want them to have meaningful subjects. Next thing you'll want is for them to stop post whoring, use a spell checker and post in understandable english.

Naturally, I'm kidding. But I do agree that it would be beneficial to everyone if the subject lines were more informative. It would make search more effective and aid in scanning the forums to see what's interesting or not. Short of going to a fully moderated board, I just don't see it happening.

Something must be done to at least encourage the suggestion. The search function is becoming so time consuming that is often a penalty to have to use it, and that's for something simple.

I'd just as soon see some threads with good information be lost in a bin because of lack of a good title than further screw up the deteriorating search function. It is already easier to get a lot of information on less used forums just because there is so much less garbage to needlessly scan/read through.

Could the rating system be revamped to be used by the mods/whoever on the titles alone to facilitate searches(or in the end, save the usability of the search function here)?

Information available is the trump card of this site over others. What happens when that information is, for practical purposes, no longer available?

Oh, if changes are being made, can we set up a child care area, and a link to anger management.

+1.. It's very fusterating searching by "entire thread". Key words in the title are so much easier. It's straight to the point...

Thank you so much for making this thread, i was just talking about this the other day and said something about it again in the Blue Angles thread. People really need to think about what is being addressed in their thread and make the title based on that so when someone is having a similar problem they can find the thread when they search.

I think in this case the suitable threads will be the unsuitable ones.
