+1

I think it's because they're trying to fix a bug and testing it. I was told earlier today that "Member's Rides" feature isn't yet compatible with the newest vBulletin upgrade, so it's probably that they're trying to figure out right now.

I'm not sure about that statement. I'm pretty sure that companies paying for advertisements, Premier Members, and Sponsors all want this site to run in a manner consistent with similar Forums running for a profit (and there is nothing wrong with that).

I was thinking of singing up for the premier member ship, but with the speeds of 1998 50k modem going on I think I will pass.

I have been going back and forth should I, but when I get here I get so pissed trying to load anything that I have a change of heart lol.

since they're not going to (i dont think its even possible) to upgrade the speed just for prime-time members, the site will be dictated by the majority, which is like 98% free. there are a lot of car sites out there that charge a one time five dollar fee for anyone to join, which keeps down spam and one-timers (selling stuff), and keep the forum running. then there are memberships you can pay for to get the status. too late for that here but its a good thought

Mike,

Forgive me, but I don’t understand your reply. The site should run reliably and at a reasonable speed for anyone (Registered Member, Premier Member, or Guest). In fact it is the guest who we want to have a good experience on my350z.com since we want guests to look, and then join the Forum (i.e., “the more the merrier”).

Sites with many views attract advertising dollars and Vendors. Active participation of registered users and Premier Members attract Guests who might choose to join. In fact that is why my350z.com is the best and by far the most successful Forum for owners of this car on the Internet.

Your suggestion (“there are a lot of car sites out there that charge a one time five dollar fee for anyone to join, which keeps down spam and one-timers (selling stuff), and keep the forum running. then there are memberships you can pay for to get the status. too late for that here but its a good thought”) isn’t wise. This only limits the membership and effectively keeps participation at a low level. You want just the opposite, which is attracting guests to join as registered members. Then you go on to provide benefits to Registered Members to entice these people to become Premier Members.

I’m pretty certain that the slowdowns happen because of maintenance and heavy traffic during certain times. The two go together, and the result is a slowdown.
