8 hours is really great considering the track record in the past.......
In the past, the site would be down for days to do "upgrades" and there might not be a discernible difference from the old to the "upgrade"....

To add, the edit/delete feature will be back with the upgrade. However, if an event, such as the one that caused the edit/delete feature to be taken away this time, occurs again, the features will be disabled for good.
I can't wait for the update.

You're welcome.
Again, please let others know, too, that behavior, such as the one that caused us to remove the edit/delete abilities, will not be tolerated and will only inconvenience the entire forum. Oh, and they'll get an instant perm ban.

God this forum is really getting on my nerves. This edit thing is absolutely ridiculous. Thousands of honest people are being punished for the actions of a few scammers...yeah that's a great solution. I think this will be one of the last times i ever post on this site again.
Well, how else would you deal with scammers, which you can't just do away with by banning. People edit/delete certain things out to not only potentially scam, but also to harm the information that is available.
Why don't you come up with a better solution? I don't know who all those violators are, so if you say ban, then you're extremely short sighted and have no experience dealing with anything at this scale.
BTW, I've never even seen you post. And to be frank, from one quick glance through your posting history, I don't see anything of real value. So, I don't think your threat is a very valid one.

You are correct, banning is not the answer (I have never even suggested that). Why not let the long standing members who have an established reputation through their Itrader or # of posts be able to use the edit and delete feature. Surely a member who has been around for a long time with a good reputation is not the type of scammer this loss of privilege is trying to curtail, is it?
And btw, my threat of not posting here is very real. Whether you have seen any of my posts or consider them of value is none of my concern. The fact is I have a very busy life and don't have the time to post on here as much as i would like. Quite frankly i find your response very unprofessional and unnecessary especially considering you are an admin. A simply reply querying for a more useful suggestion would have gotten you one.
Perhaps one day when you visit a major department store and seek the attention of a customer service rep they will treat you similarly and tell you to get lost as you are only one customer and your purchases are of insignificant value.

What about not allowing the original for sale post in the private classified section to be edited? That, coupled with some increased moderation in the regional sections (since people tend to double up on their for sale posts in both places I assume), might go along way towards curtailing the issue.
Another option, and one you could do in conjunction with the above, is make a private for sale template that must be filled out to completion, before a private for sale ad can be posted.

as someone who personally lost over $1000 here through the classified section, whether or not the bastard could edit his post or not would not have mattered. He wasnt concerned with his reputation and there was no recourse concerning this forum. So, I really dont understand how this thwarts any scammer.
We've had our share of scammers and the vigilance of other members, responding to anything else they try to pull over on us is what truly helps. It doesnt really matter if the original post exists or not. The victim always documents his dealing in detail. Members dont forget here.. and often times they even have screen caps of the old messages anyway. Take the guy that tried to sell the car that had rolled. He could deleted every mention of his previous accident and it would not have prevented the countless pages of members calling him out over it. It was hard to mistake that sale as 'good'.
I think the efforts to help people not get scammed is commendable. Dont get me wrong. the timed edit at 7 days is generous, but ultimately causes headaches for members who are trying to create some of the best sources of info we have, DIYs and stickies that combine other sources of info. And for vendors for obvious reasons.
What I have noticed on other forums to protect other members is the use of the "wiki" style 2nd post. The second post is automatically created and gives everyone a place to view a summary of the thread, regardless of what has happened with the original. That may not be technically feasible here, just a common way of addressing this problem.
