And btw, my threat of not posting here is very real. Whether you have seen any of my posts or consider them of value is none of my concern. The fact is I have a very busy life and don't have the time to post on here as much as i would like. Quite frankly i find your response very unprofessional and unnecessary especially considering you are an admin. A simply reply querying for a more useful suggestion would have gotten you one.
Perhaps one day when you visit a major department store and seek the attention of a customer service rep they will treat you similarly and tell you to get lost as you are only one customer and your purchases are of insignificant value.

Do you guys honestly think that the staff here are that stupid that we choose to punish everybody when we have an option to punish just one person? Again, we don't have that, but you're assuming we do and that we aren't thinking enough to be "reasonable."
My tone and response came from your assumption that we aren't doing our job properly. And don't give me this "you're admin" blah blah. Maybe if you hadn't "threatened" us with "i'm not coming back," but rather tried to reason with us and tried to improve on how things could be dealt with, I would've responded in a more professional way. Don't expect to say whatever you want without expecting to here whatever I want to say. I say what needs to be said in a suitable and fitting manner.
Threatening won't get you anywhere and I don't want you to expect anything from it. Many are quick to say what they think will get them what they want. It doesn't work that way.

Another option, and one you could do in conjunction with the above, is make a private for sale template that must be filled out to completion, before a private for sale ad can be posted.

And yet again, softwares (like vBulletin) are just that. They can only do what they're designed to do. That means, just because we (admins and members) can think up something, it will most likely not exist within our control panel to implement it.

We've had our share of scammers and the vigilance of other members, responding to anything else they try to pull over on us is what truly helps. It doesnt really matter if the original post exists or not. The victim always documents his dealing in detail. Members dont forget here.. and often times they even have screen caps of the old messages anyway. Take the guy that tried to sell the car that had rolled. He could deleted every mention of his previous accident and it would not have prevented the countless pages of members calling him out over it. It was hard to mistake that sale as 'good'.
I think the efforts to help people not get scammed is commendable. Dont get me wrong. the timed edit at 7 days is generous, but ultimately causes headaches for members who are trying to create some of the best sources of info we have, DIYs and stickies that combine other sources of info. And for vendors for obvious reasons.
What I have noticed on other forums to protect other members is the use of the "wiki" style 2nd post. The second post is automatically created and gives everyone a place to view a summary of the thread, regardless of what has happened with the original. That may not be technically feasible here, just a common way of addressing this problem.

I found some people (so called "long standing members") deleting valuable information from our forum which they had posted. After this whole IB incident, people didn't fully realize every aspect, thus creating biases and unjust assumptions toward 1 side. That's when people started jumping on the mygtr.com bandwagon, IB hating, etc. Because information and the members are what make up an online forum, losing either would be detrimental. I, personally, can't prevent members from leaving. However, I can stop them from deleting content. Thus, time limit of a week for editing was set and the ability to delete were taken away.
Not too long after, that's when we started getting a lot more scammers on our forum. So, to prevent that or at least slow it down further, the editing ability was taken away completely.
I promised that I would bring back both abilities when things settled down (approximating that it would be at the end of August or early September). I kept my promise and brought both abilities back, with the editing ability having the preset time limit of 1 week, which nobody even noticed anyway when it was first initiated.
Hope that helps.
Anyway, we are definitely looking for suggestions that we may not have thought of already. So, continue to post up your opinions, comments, and suggestions. However, please keep in mind that there are certain and very real limitations on what can be done. Hopefully, with the upcoming update (whenever that is..), things are more adjustable and flexible enough so that we won't have to go through the process of punishing everybody for a few people's mistakes.
