Ok here is what i have so far:
We were told that the previous version of search was slowing the forum down due to our growth. Because it was much too slow, they had changed over to this version of search, which pretty much is useless (doesn't return as much info).
In addition, they said that with the upcoming vB update to 4.0, we'll be getting a much better version of search, so hopefully that'll solve everything. The problem is when this will be I don't know
In the meantime, they're working to improve our current version to yield proper search returns.

EDIT: Thanks for looking into it/update Dave.

Sorry, guys. I've been ragging on IB for the longest time to get this issue fixed. What they told me is what Dave posted above. The vB update should occur within a few months, but they're hoping to implement a different searching method in the mean time with our current version.
Apparently, this current version of search was their answer to our ridiculously slow search that we had before. Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to go back to the previous version, neither. I'll keep you guys updated as I get more updates (or other moderators).

the search before was never slow...and at least it brought relevant results
this search is akin to not having one at all - disable it altogether, and site probably would be even faster

I would DEFINATELY rather have the slow search instead of a search function that I can now find zero use for... It has killed my experience here the last few weeks, all my research has ceased unfortunately...

The search was working just fine and the site was not slow at all. It's not like we were streaming "videos" (non Premiere members at least lol). As stated before, i'd rather have a working search function, and a bit slower site, than a "fast" site with a useless search function. It's truly frustrating and is hindering the wealth of knowledge this site is able to share among the community. A reliable search function is proving to be extremely crucial with the amount of reposts and the frustration members are voicing.

I am fairly new to this site but quickly found out how useful the search function was (Wealth of information). Last week when I could'nt get any results from my searches I got so frustrated. I thought someone had messed up with some settings on my computer. I can't wait to see it working again. I did not think the site was slow either.

I have actually had to start posting I usually just lurk and make a comment here or there. Burn up the search function and can usually find my answer quite quickly. Now I can't find a tank in a haystack. Takes hours to find what I am looking for...I will have to blame this site if I start to gain extra weight from all this extra forum time
