what the F&$K is going on with this site ?
Like it's been mentioned above-- the biggest problem is to get all of the members here to migrate to another board. Personally, I don't ever see it happening. I can't comment on how to run the board and why it's down, but there are plenty of alternatives.
As for the vendors-- ********** has a very cheap rate to advertise over there, and 350zmotoring is free for the vendors (within reason). I'm not sure about 350zfrenzy's policies, but that's another great forum. That said, if the vendors want to (and many already have), they have the power to advertise at the other boards, it is becoming more and more worth their time and money. All of which which are getting more ACTIVE members daily.
The idea about starting up another site-- it's probably not gonna work. There are the main guys who post here, then the small group of about 150 Regulars at 350zmotoring, about 50-100 at **********, and however many REGULARS over @ 350zfrenzy. Here at this site there are so many ACTIVE members (probably 2 or 3 times as many as the other boards combined), so it'll be hard to get everybody to post over at other boards, espcecially with a post count of 1, instead of 1000 (comfortability level is definitely decreased when starting at a new site). I'd say the best possible solution is to buy the rights to this site, and have everybdoy agree to the system admin.
Overall this is probably the best site (even tho I prefer 350zmotoring and tech more)-- lots of meets are coordinated on this board and the most information is shared here. Only thing I hate is the speed (ie: waiting over 10 seconds for pages to load on a 1mb cable connection) and the unreliability (like 350zmotoring used to have all the time). Just give Victor a chance-- he's got a lot of pressure (40,000 members or somethin)and I'm sure he's trying to fix this thing while trying to keep most everybdoy happy (impossible obviously, especially w/ all the downtime). For the future, if things stay shitty here...

I used to be a very frequent reader here before the Z's were released in 2003. There wasnt a better site for those of us that pre-ordered to get our information, hands down. I remember sitting at work and reading this site for hours, waiting for new info to come out.
Members of this site would wait outside the Nissan HQ in SoCal itching for a photo-opp of a test car (they got some too). I remember when someone got a picture of a Z driving through the street of LA 1 month before the cars got here.
This site made Z enthusiasts into Z lovers; and Z lovers into Z obsessors.
The point? The reason people have a hard time leaving this site is due to the history; those who founded, loved, and believed in this site and the information it provides built a foundation that any other 350Z site is going to be unable overcome, and that is history.
I havent been here in about 6 months, and it appalls me that this stuff has been going on.
Memo to Tako: I remember when you first showed up on the scene man, and bought this site and promised to bring us bigger and better things. Other than the site redesign 2 years ago, I see nothing new. You were handed THE Z destination on the web. From a marketing and financial standpoint, you have in your grasp the cyberspace destination for those interested in current and future Z's. You have a customer base of 40,000 (and from what I understand, steadily shrinking). I would suggest not pissing that away for a couple grand worth of server upgrades.
That is just the financial reason. How about the responsability you assumed when you bought the place? If you werent planning on maintaining it, true enthusiasts would have picked up the slack and given this place the effort it has earned and really deserves.
I'm out.
