Default Greddy TT & broken/bent rods

I recently read about another Greddy TT -Z- that blew (on 350Zmotoring.com).

After reading about it I realized that the story sounded familiar.

The engine failed not during a moment of significant load, but some short time afterward. This time, while driving home from the dragstrip.

What is interesting to me is that the rods get bent and broken while the poor -Z- owner is just driving normally.

It is probably detonation right?

Could it be that the air/fuel or spark management system has a defect? Perhaps, this defect occurs not during, but after a significant load....like the damn computer is faulty?

if he was not under WOT loads, that would be the first time I heard of an engine blowup while just cruising about.

I need to do some more research....one moment please.

You know what could have happened and this is far out there...........A alien could have beemed himself into the engine a bent one of the rods.....Just joken....This sounds alittle suspect if you ask me...

Define "normally" . . . what RPM range did these rods finally let go? I'm fairly sure I remember a G35 giving out around 4k rpms in 4th gear . . . but does that really tell the whole story? Could it be possible to critically damage the rods while under high load (6k rpms) and it finally just deteriorated after that moment and died at a lower load?

the G35 was at lower RPM, but was at WOT when it let go.

Matt's did the same thing as did my Z32. My theory is that the damage starts under heavy load but does not actually cause something to "let go" until sometime later, often when the motor is not under heavy load. My $.02

yah that is my friend out here in new mex....
he influenced me to collect all my forged internals and stuff for my fututre rebuild now..so i don't have to wait 4-6 weeks for all of the parts to get here...

he's in the process of building it back up, i'm next

i like the gremlin theory... but i'm leaning towards putting my money on the chance that it was an ewok

Well gents given the fact that I am about 400 miles from Roswell and there is an USAF base here in Albuquerque, we can rule out aliens...maybe.

Seriously, though, I was not under heavy boost or WOT when my rod #2 gave me the finger. It must have been a crack in the rod growing and growing until it finally went. I was running 8psi at this altitude of 5500 feet. Although above stock boost settings, its not like I was running greater than ten pounds or something crazy on stock internals.

I have a block arriving Monday, pistons on order and will be buying my rods and head studs from Gq. Luckily I was able to find my parts I needed. I will keep you posted on the beast I am building.

he could of caused the major damage at high load, then it didn't completely fail till he left the drag strip. Especially if he was crusing at a high speed like 70+ mph.

e-dogg
keep me posted, don't be a stranger!

my pistons/rods/aam fuel system is on the way...

we'll race when its all done

---and a reminder all, GOING DEEP and myself are up here at 5500ft...8lbs at that level has got to be close to producing the same cylinder pressure as approx 6lbs at sea level...

and this specific car was running nitrous a while back prior to the tt application!

Good luck with the buildups. GoingDeep, you are going to have the fastest, sickest roadster out there.....I hope you realize that...right?

Thanks sharif, I guess this is whole episode is going to work out for the best. I would have probably waited forever to get my internals otherwise. So far, the only extra expense incurred from doing my forged internals this way is the cost of the block (715). Besides that, everything I am buying would have been bought had I not broken a rod.
