Default Vortech noise - Belt too tight??

I recently had a new belt put on my vortech and since the previous one was too lose, I told the guys at the shop to make sure that the new belt was tight enough to avoid that screeching noise. But, ever since I picked the car up, there is a noise - I think its coming from the blower itself, but I cant tell exactly. I know its atleast near the blower and maybe at the jackshaft assembly. If the serp. belt were adjusted too tight, could this cause the noise? The sound is most evident at idle and at low rev's while cruising. And it sounds like a slight ruffling vibrating noise, almost like the blower is clogged with something, that is the best I can explain it. I NEVER had this sound before the new belt was put on, and noticed it half way home after picking up the car. Anyone got an ideas here?

Check your blower belt first .A good half inch of play both ways . You should ,with some effort , be able to trun the jackshaft pulley . The serp pulley.... .4 inches of play and be hard to turn to a 90 degree angle...Bill

The serp is pretty hard to turn to a 90 degree angle...Its definitely tighter than my last belt.....but im still thinking too tight.
Cog belt actually feels pretty loose.

Do you have a goodyear belt on ? They seem to stretch very easy .

It is Napas belt...whatever that is.

I'll be putting on the 3.12 pulley very very soon anyways with a GATES 93 5/8 in belt, so I'll be sure to have the shop get the tension right this time.

I just replaced my belt w/ a napa belt, which btw is made by gates. Nice and thick! Car's never been so quiet in it's entire S/C life. I'm extremely happy.

Make sure your blower is getting oil to it.

Did everyone else just miss this? Check the tension pulley here... the cog belt should be snug (not tight)... but should definitely not be loose. I bet that is what is causing your noise.

As for serpentine belts, the jury is still out on what's best.

The Gates and Dayco are definitely thicker (which hopefully means you get longer life out of them), but from my experience the Goodyear grabs better.

Thanks for the input guys - i'll be making an appointment at my shop to have the problem looked at. I did buy the GATES belt today and it appears to be much thicker than my current belt. Can't wait to get the 3.12 pulley on and see if they can get rid of the noise.
