Talking 443rwhp with an APS TT on Zippy Car

I just picked up Zippy Car with a new APS TT system in her from GRD in Naperville, IL. I now have 443rwhp! Up from 275rwhp! Yee Haa! The power comes on so smooth, so quite, so sweetly that you get that giddy feeling of excitement every time you hit the accelerator. I was spinning the tires in 4th gear just hitting the gas to pass! Christmas has definitely come early!

This was a BIG decision and I was very nervous going in, but he guys at GRD are great. Tuan, Irshad, Earl, Bill and the rest of the gang made me feel very comfortable about choosing them. I did a lot of research before choosing the APS (Air Power Systems) Twin Turbo system. They have by far the best TT package available. Of course you get what you pay for and while not the lowest price system, it is the most complete dollar for dollar when you compare it to the competition. In the beginning I was going to go Super Charger, but after many sleepless nights doing my homework, I chose to go the turbo route. Then the choices were very easy. APS is simply the best. Check out their web site: They have the best information of any MFG out there.

How did you have 275rwhp before?
Modified internals I hope?

Sounds fun

Can you post the dyno chat? Was this a Dyno Jet or a load based dyno. With a 275whp baseline...I am guessing load based..right?

Great numbers regardless.

He made 275 rwhp on a local dynojet. Mods were hiflow cats, borla catback, intake, TB and reflash. Before the install we got a baseline of 260 ish whp on our Dynapack. Our bone stock 2004 Z pulled 245ish whp. Zippy will get new internals as soon as the parts arrive.
I kept boost at 8psi and played with a little timing and fuel from the map that I did for our Z. I'd say its a fairly conservative tune because his car really wanted to make more power. I didn't want to push the motor further.
I'd like to also note for those that aren't familiar with APS dyno (DynoDynamics) that their's tends to read lower than our dynapack.

Naperville huh? I used to live there. Hows the snow this time of year?

Glad you like your APS, I am thinking of going the same route. What do you plan to get to build up the motor?

Zippy,

Congrats!! That's probably where I'll go for my APS.

Why not wait for the internals and install all at once? Wouldn't that of saved you quite a bit on installation? How much was your install? Did you have anything else installed with the APS? Timer, gauges, anything?

Thanks guys and to GRD. I will be getting the DYNO print-out soon, so you all can see. I have one, but all you can see is the base line. I have the Defi d guages installed. Boost, EGT, Fuel Psi. Not as nice as the BF series, but they will do nicely and since they are mounted on the piller, I like the smaller size. I am very happy with my decision.

Next up: APS plenum and Bottom end Project.

Looks good....load based dyno.

I know I keep beating this to death...but hopefully someone will post a dynojet so we can compare to the Greddy kits that are our there.

i thought these load based dynos were supposed to be better at simulating real world conditions? That thing doesnt have enough load to make full boost before 5000 RPM...

If I didnt know better from looking at board member jeff's dynojet graph, I would of thought the APS kit would drive horrible... but as I said, I know better from seeing jeff's graph and noted that the APS kit actually has superior turbo response characteristics to the Greddy kit.

Your peak torque numbers would probably be greater if that dyno let you hit full boost sooner.

Ill let you run your car on my Dynojet for free if you like, just cause I would like to see what an APS kit does on a stock engine in person... so far the only APS install we are doing is on a built motor

This would allow us to take the graphs and overlay them in the dyno software and then we could show the world the most fair comparison available.

How many PSI of Boost???
Cause we don't have Dyno at our Island
no other choice so I'm used GTech Pro.
read 290HP , 286tq and I ran 12.428 at 1/4
I get APS TT kit with 57 kpa Boost

Hey Zippy congratulations on the APS TT install you must be thrilled with the performance, by the way what boost presure was required to produce the 443 WHP?

Thanks
