Boost Controller Top 3..need advice
So I think i have narrowed down my boost controller hunt to the following.
Greddy Profec E01
Greddy Profec B Spec 2
HKS EVC 5
Naturally I want the most accurate one of the bunch. THe Profec B is leading the hunt simply based on its price point compared to the other 2 but I'd like to get opinions from someone who has used them. The Apexi AVC-R was going to be it but some members have suggested issues with it not holding the correct amount of boost. I want one that I will not have to worry about. I plan to try to keep my stock internal functioning for AT LEAST the next year so any help is greatly appreciated.

Mia, if you arent running an eManage, which I think you are not, then the Spec 2 is a great little unit. The only thing it lacks is a large screen and datalogging.
But the true benifit of the of the e-01 over the Spec 2 is the integration of the eManage with the e-01. If you dont have an eManage, then many of the great FAB's of the e-01 are not used.

the latest HKS EVC stole my heart when I installed it in my Z. The only thing it lacks is a feature that most people never use... boost by gear/speed.
its a rock solid device and its simple to use unlike previous EVC versions.

Yeah I figured the E01 would kind of be a waste since I'mnot running an emanage. Since I will be installing an AEM wideband and the new full sweep electric gauges from Autometer i can do datalogging that way as well. I huess now its between the Spec 2 and EVC. How hard is the Spec 2 to operate?

I am not a Profec B spec 2 fan...too inconsisitent on many cars. The Blitz is nice, and works really really well...a bit gimmicky (not as bad, as say the Apexi). Its also the most expensive.
If you need a killer price on the EVC5, let me know
HKS's are also dead on reliable - I have run an EVCIV in one of my cars for the last 4.5 years now without issue

In that case is the EZII a better deal? I really like the price point of the Greddy units.. I will be running a boost gauge anyways but I mean is it really a diminished product minus the screen?
the EZ is lacking a few features which make the EVC5 a better overall unit IMHO - not the least of which is the overboost protection feature. Let's say your high boost setting is 9 psi and your low is 4 psi. If you set your overboost at 10 psi, if your boost reaches that level, the unit beeps and instantaneously reverts you down to your low boost setting...very neat feature, especially on a car that was not desinged with boost in mind in the first place. The control unit also has peak/hold, as well as a security feature so no one can play with your boost
well said...Z1
That IS in fact a killer price IMHO. That's what I ended up getting mine for after 3 days of searching..... I could not find one for less than $500 flat.
The reason I love mine so much IS b/c of its consistency in boost delivery. That's all due to the stepper motor design unique to EVC (rather than the conventialonal and relatively less responsive solenoid units)> No falming here please, just my opinion and experience talking here. EVC is the b@lls-out boost controller. If you don't have emanage or do not care about the intergration that is offered by the e-01, than this unit is the best one. If I had emanage, I would probably get the E01 to take advantage of all the cool features....

gurgern do you have any pics of the unit i could see. I know looks is not even on the list of reasons to buy this but I'd like to see how you incorporated the unit. Also any pics of the functions on the screen would be great. Thanks...
