Question Any blown TT motors at "stock" boost?

Has anyone blown an engine running their TT kit at the prescribed boost level? (installed properly)

If so, what failed?

Yes...several. Gurgen, JoeNismo are two that come to mind. The rods let go. One had the Greddy kit, the other had the PE kit.

So If I plan on running 'stock' boost with forged pistons/rods, should I still drop the compression?

Thanks

Well why spend all that money on forged internals and not turn up the boost?

After a few months you will want more power. Especially if you get beat racing sombody

I think 9.0:1cr or 9.5:1cr would be a good choice.

I was running at 6.6lbs of boost, so not exactly stock boost. The stock boost on a Greddy kit is 5.8.

I dont think anyone has blown their engine running the stock boost. Those who have blown it or have done some engine damage, have done so with the boost higher than the stock level. I bent a rod while road tuning at 7.1psi.

fine...stockish boost... But Gurgens blew in the sub 6psi range.

Even if you want 400whp, and planned on changing internals, I would still go lower CR. 10.3:1 is too high of a CR for F/I on this car, and if you are going to change the internals out, it would be wise to go low.

sharif:
how much timing should i pull and at what rpm range (or how do you think it is best?)
my setup:
9.0 : 1 compression
goal 550 actual rwhp (est 17-18 psi)

i may start with 450 rwhp first for a month or two

anyway, how many degrees, i've heard all the methods...gradually pulling timing, pulling timing per boost.... what do u think???

GReddy TT, all mods in sig...4500 miles on engine...blew at 4200rpm in second...stock boost. Suspect rod failure...going into engine this week to determine damage and cause.

Well here is the problem. I blew mine and was running at what I thought was 5.6psi....but....while racing someone down the 91fwy, some how.....some way, the psi level spiked to 10psi and there went all my rings and teh #6 rod.

Bottom line ..... engine should be rebuilt/reinforced so that in case of this happening, it will not damage the car.....

was the damage only to rod #6..or did you really have ring damage as well (ring damage in cylinder 6 or others?)

thx
