Default worse case scenario...what do you all think?

so, i was given half the story about my motor:
first off, there is a large hole in the block
second, my tuner "suspects" head damage, even damage to the turbos..i'm not sure what he is basing this off of, but i will be meeting with him tomorrow to find out (I wanted to see if i could find out anything tonight, before i go in tomorrow)

i think his assumption is based off of the large hole in the block, the location (which i don't know where exactly it's at)..and the fact that there was lots of metal shards in the oil
my questions:
-is this an indication for anything? or is this was all motors with a broken rod look like?
-what are the chances of turbo damage? and if there is damage, how do u fix these little buggers?
-isn't there always shards of metal in the oil when something breaks in the motor like this?
-DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY A LONGBLOCK?-i have a guy, but if that falls through, i'd like to have a backup plan that can ship a motor out ASAP!

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Well the amount of metal depends on the extent of the failure but it is possible, and it also depends on how much the engine managed to run or pump oil through the system after the failure.

The damage to the turbos could be due to the metal in the oil and damaging the bearings/bushings, or to metal pieces actually making it out the exhaust and damaging the wheels. The wheel damage would be visible but the other not sure how you could be sure.

I guess some of the guys that actually had failures would be of some help.

I agree with Westpak's estimate. Metal in the oil supply would kill the turbo bearings.....metal in the exhaust from valve damage would damage the turbo impellers and throw the balance off and cause eventual failure as well. Turbo's cab be re-built no problem.
