Question Ignition Systems

What do you'll think about this product.
http://www.kennebell.net/accessories...oostaspark.htm
I'm thinking about this item or the HKS Twin Power DLI

Any input on these items would be great. thanks

The AEM C2DI system is pretty much the best bang for the buck... It's basically a typical ignition system x 2 (two capacitors) and can deliver full spark up to something like 14,000 rpm. 540 volts per spark. I run it in my S2000 and it made the dyno curves extremely reliable and consistant.

The VQ coil on plug ignition system is probably as good as it gets in the automotive world. Lots of guys use the stock ignition system for major power, since it is so effective and powerful.

The HKS unit looks interesting, since its specifically designed to work with coil over plug ignition systems, and HKS almost always does an excellent job in terms of R&D.

I plan on leaving my stock ignition system for now.

I remember asking Doug Crawford of crawfordzcar.com fame - he suggested the 350Z has an excellent ingnition system, and $$ be better spent elsewhere.

gq_626,

Thanks for your in-put, I have a question for you. Would the Kennebell Boost a Spark be good too cause it also works with coil over plug ignition systems? For the price ($220) and what it gives you it cann't be beat.

As gq_626 stated, the Z has a really nice coil-on-plug (COP) ignition that does not need upgrading for any reason. Each cylinder gets its own coil and power FET (IGBT, actually, for the EEs in the crowd) to drive the spark, directly above the spark plug, which eliminates the plug wires. Spark should be VERY nice and strong because the COP setup allows for really long dwell time to charge the coil.

Unless you're planning an exotic custom ion-sensing ignition system, the stock COP should serve you very well. Spend your excess cash elsewhere.

Royal_T - the VQ30DE (as found on the Maxima and I30) also has a coil-on-plug system. In case you were actually referring to the G35, it uses the same VQ35DE as the 350Z and therefore has the exact same ignition system.
