Default Greddy TT install - Too early???

My Z currently has 1,400 miles. Is it too soon to put it under the knife? I managed to get my hands on a Greddy TT kit w/ HKS SSQ BOF and it's killing me to see it boxed in my garage not serving it's purpose. But..... warranty issues.........

Your warranty has gone whenever you do it, so you might as well do it now and have fun with the car. How long do you guys in the US get a warranty for?? we get 3 years in the UK.

We've also got 3 yrs or 36K miles . . . as for installing the kit, I'd wait until you get forged internals, new fuel system, and the crank angle sensor wiring. No reason to damage such a new vehicle.

I'm still thinking about it, but I might be selling my TT kit has like 1 hr of use on it until I blew up. I'll let you know when I make a final decision, if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer but I already have the kit =)

But damn.... blown engine at 7k? That must've really hurt from both a monetary and emotional perspective. These kind of stories don't inspire me much to rush and get the TT installed =(

Can you enlighten me on the details?

I was driving in the rain to see if it all worked before adding the rest of the goodies but big mistake. Also driving w/ VDC off which I usually do anyway, on the last run my tires were really spinnin and the rpms whipped up to redline area and that's when I think I broke. I came to the stop light and when I started to go it stalled and didn't start. Yea it was a bummer to have to push it 3 blocks in the rain, I'm still trying to decide what to do. If I was you I'd get the harness for timing or something like it otherwise it's a very big risk in doing the same. Also probably want to get a boost gauge, I wish I did the timing at the least, now I'm paying for it big time. I have a new engine on the way but now have to get the rest of the parts and pull my old one out. Also don't listen to GReddy saying it's safe out the box because it isn't. They say it's safe to run using what they give you but that's BullSh!t straight up.

Wow, that REALLY sucks. So from what I'm reading, you ran the kit out of the box? What exactly was the source of the blow?

Technosquare is only a 10 minute drive from where I live. I plan on having them take care of all my tuning once this thing is installed. I talked to an awesome and helpful guy named Brian over at TS, who happens to own the Endless/Top Secret sponsored Z. After listening to him, I plan on running the kit off the TS flash w/out e-manage. I also have the J&S Safeguard and Walbro fuel pump in my possession.

Do any of you think it's an absolute must to wait for forged rods/pistons before putting the Z under the knife?

what year is your car? because mine is 04 TS didn't have the flash and I actually sent it over there 2 times both times getting sent back. If you have 04 w/ the R4 or R5 ecu I think they have a flash for you but mine had a 19 and no flash running the Greddy TT. I didn't take apart my motor but I think I busted a rod, if you seen my other post I have a hole in the passenger side of my engine. If you go to TS ask them when they're going to have the 04 w/ Greddy TT they still havent' replied here when I asked. If I end up installing my kit I'm probably going to do something like the FCon. As much as I like to run the TS flash I'm starting to have no patients in waiting for them. If you end up having to run the e-manage and plan on doing the TS flash check out the Autosport wiring harness, you don't have to hack in your ecu wiring. That's what my original plan was but now looking into alternatives. You know what I was talking to Danny a guy that worked there previously and I got the FPR and 380cc injectors to find out there's no flash. I think I waited since Oct, they said it'll be here mid Nov to the end and then it because mid Dec to end of Dec. Whatever, just get it figured out is what I have to say.

Man..... that sucks. A hole? That's every enthusiast's worst nightmare. How much did you end up paying for your new engine plus installation? I REALLY feel sorry for you.

I have a 2005 Z (build date of 8/04). Technosquare has my ECU right now and it's getting flashed for my N/A mods (since I don't know when I'm going to install the TT). Try calling TS instead of posting on these boards and you'll get a better response. Tadashi, Brian, and the other folks over there really know their shizzle. On top of that, they're really helpful and want you to be fully satisfied.

BTW, FCon stand alone was my original choice, because I'd much rather choose it over a piggy-back system. But after hearing about TS flash w/out having to install e-manage, I'm going that route for sure.

Forged internals are on my shopping list for sure.

read this thread:

and this one:
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....hreadid=102166

I think it is not a MUST...but you decide.....it is definately a good idea..invest the extra money and get the forged internal...
BTW, i will be selling a set of pauter rods as soon as they get here...i had to get other rods earlier to put my motor back together and i already had a set of pauter rods on order and couldn't cancel...

breaking a rod, damaging the block...taking the chance of damaging one of the heads (which i did)...really adds much more expense to the rebuild
don't rebuild out of necessity because your motor is blown, it will cost you another 3-4 weeks in time and 2-4k in dollars...
rebuild because it is a wise thing to do, i twin turboed my car when it had 7000 miles on it, now it has a little over 10,000 miles on it and my motor sits on the floor at my tuners' shop (btw, i'll post pics soon)

thanks for the heads up...

I've made my decision and I'm waiting for my forged rods/pistons until I go the TT route. Too much risk involved. I also feel there's no need for me to rush into things after hearing all this. It'll give me something to look forward to anyways =)

Are there any other measures I can take to get me further away from a blown engine besides forged internals, fuel pump, and J&S Safeguard?

I had my TT installed at 2500miles. Still had the dealer plates on it. The shop that installed it was like WTF.

My engine has survived...so far...but I am removing it next week for the crazy forged build-up. Get ready for some new fireworks!

GQ, what are you having done for the build-up and what have you done so far in terms of keeping that TT reliable?

A good tune goes a long way towards reliabilty. For the past 14000 miles, i had a nicely rich tune, 6 degress of timing retard at boost...across the entire RPM range, and a Walbro 255 fuel pump. Been running 8.5 to 9.0 PSI the entire time. I'd like to caution that I think I got lucky, and I dont believe my car is showing the irratic timing issues/crank angle anomolies that some cars may be exhibiting. Maybe I also got a stronger engine from the factory...who really knows.

Needless to say, and even Peter from APS has said this. 400whp with any of these kits is probably the absolutely limit before bad things will EVENTUALLY start to happen. You might get thousands of carefree miles before death...but it is just too risky the stock internals.

My buildup will consiste of this...starts on Tues.

Pauter Forged Rods
Arias Forged pistons 9.0:1 .020 overbore
ARP head and main studs
Basic port matching and valve job
AAM return fuel system upgrade with FPR
RC 550 injectors
ATS twin disc carbon Clutch and flywheel
Upgraded rear wheels and tires.
eManage tuned by CJ-Motorsports (pressure based to 20psi)
goal....20 psi and 600whp.
