Default Those of you with FI

How many of you have either returned the car to stock, sold the car, or regret investing all this money into your car and wished you can take it all back? I'm about to make the plunge but I want to see if it's more headaches than fun. I don't want a 500whp+ monster, just a fast car that's reliable and that's why I'm waiting for the JWT. I didn't really want to replace the internals either. I remember reading some threads about guys who sold the car and said they wanted to go with something more powerful and still under warranty. I don't want to invest all this money into a car and then have nothing but headaches and want to sell the car to make them go away. So back to my original question lol "How many guys regret going FI?"

I kinda do and dont. Honestly though, if you can find that special shop that can install and tune everything perfectly, the car should run relaibly even at 450 rwhp for a good long time. There are a few members on this forum that have done just that. It can be just one mistake for everything to fall apart.

W/o FI in my life, the car would have been paid off and i could be saving for a house, but life as i know it would be alot slower.

^^well put^^^

Some people like to buy a fast car and be done with it. Other will mod anything that has wheels. So really...it just depends on the type of personally you have. If you want total reliability, and have no desire to mod and tinker, than buy a Z06 or something..whatever. But I know myself very well by now. Even if I bought a 911 Turbo, I would immediately begin modding it. So WTF...i like the looks of the 350Z, and its a great platform for mods. With about 60-70K invested, you can pretty much destroy anything on the road.

^^ I agree!

Im the type that cant keep their hands off their toys, keep it clean ppl!. Ive modded paintball guns since highschool and computers in college. The toys just get bigger and more expensive.

If you dont want to risk the heart ache/challenge of modding a car, then FIing a 350Z is the last thing i would recomend for you. Converting a fairly new NA car and motor, like the 350Z to FI will require more time, dedication, and certainly money then adding a boost controller to something like a Evo8. There is a popular saying with the local... uhhh, lets call them car enthusiasts, "you got to pay to play."

Do you guys even feel this way about a supercharger?
Im not much into modding cars but I do love the Z and crave more power....I think 80WHP or so would dmore than satisfy me.

I was just going to get an E46 but I dont like the looks enough.

What would you do in this case?

It's still too early for many of us with APS TT kits to make that kind of judgement. I know there have been numerous Greddy TT owners who might say that they made a mistake but pathfinders sometimes step in a hole. Hopefully we who follow will avoid the pitfalls discovered by the leaders and not find our own.

I would have to agree with GQ and Enron. No matter what I buy I will always mod it. I on the other hand have no regret buying the turbo kit and installing it. Fit is just as good if not better then any other kit out there and no matter which turbo kit you get you will end up spending more money in upgrading it.

EnthuZiast:

You say that you only want an additional 80hp, but the day you get beat, its like an addiction you will have to do more and next thing you know your driving a 600rwhp car. My car at 433rwhp feels extremely slow. I have dynoed it on severaly occasions thinking I might be lossing power and it still dynos the same numbers. You can never have enough HP.

10K can do LOTS of thing. I don't find the solid and good reason to put out another 10K for more hp when you couldn't even use it all.

Im corrupted by power.

Look at it this way. The old saying "there is always someone faster," is fairly true. Of course you make that percentage of faster ppl smaller and smaller.

What other options do you have for the money?

With a twin turbo kit for the 350Z you are reaching power levels of the 911 996 twin turbo for ALOT less money.

You could get a new C6 Corvette but most 350Z enthusiasts would laugh at that idea. So really at this point you can't beat the performance increase a turbo kit provides for the money.

In the 60ft, yeah...its too much power. But once you are rolling around 70mph...there is no such thing as too much power.

GQ your video is great bro!
Anyway I think you guys are nuts! and I think i would kill myself if I had 433WHP.

I would seriously be happy with an 80WHP addition. That should give me enough to smoke:
E46 M3
C5 Vette
911

right?
What is my best route?....Asking this to experts in FI like Sharif......etc....

thanks in advance

Tom

I think it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend. If all you think you need is 80rwhp then why spend more?

IMO the smartest thing would be to plan for the future. What if 80rwhp is not enough next year and a supercharger kit is just not up to the task for the increase your looking for? It might be a waste of money. Obviously there is more flexibility with turbo kits.

If price is a major concern the turbonetics kit or the APS single turbo kit is the answer.

Well, not exactly smoking em. It would be very close with all of those cars with just a 80whp increase over stock. You stand the best chance of beating the M3, but pretty much no chance of getting the C5 or 911....both of those cars are in the 12's....SC'ed 350Z's are usually in the low 13's.

I like the idea of a F/I upgrade path.....that way....you can continue building if you have a good foundation to begin with.

Ethuziast, I have about +70whp and +50wtq on my car, a mild setup by most. And though I like driving the car, it feels like its losing power day to day -- its just me prolly getting used to it. Like spazpilot said, once you get used to it, its back to square zero, you want more. Now I'm looking for custom 8psi pulley and saving to swap clutch and tires. And it prolly won't end there, either...

Oh man. Its that addicting huh?

So a Stillen Stage 2 may not do it for me....

Well to be very honest I dont trust the Greddy TT so I am lost on what to do as fat as TT or single T. Can someone give me a realistic answer of how much this would cost me TOTAL?

I am really trying to put myself in your guys shoes when you say 80WHP may not satisfy me and think through what my best inital route would be. I would hate to not consider your advice...get my 80WHP and then find that uh...oh not enough.

Thanks for all the honest opinions. Someone please guide me. 3000+ posts here and TONS of FI searches and reading and I feel lost on what to do

Single turbo would be about 4k cheaper than a TT.

I'd say 15k for T, 18-20k for TT.
