Hi Everyone,
After numerous hours of research, testing, cutting, fitting, and retesting we are now proud to release Version2 of the innovative AAM Return Fuel System. This new addition to the fuel system will be included in all newly shipped kits. Any current customers using the AAM Return Fuel System who want to upgrade will receive the Version2 upgrade free of charge. The Version2 upgrade will also be available individually for customers that like the fit, finish, and performance of the new design.
The Version2 Fuel System further improves the return to the factory pump assembly by utilizing the factory siphon system and canister. The Version2 Fuel system adds a new in tank fuel line, new in tank fittings, and a new fuel pressure plug. Aside from tapping the top of the fuel pump assembly for the bulkhead fuel fitting (for the return line), no modifications need to be made to the factory pump assembly. That is a major benefit of the new AAM Version2 Fuel System. We include a complete set of instructions and pictures to show how the system is installed. It will take no more then 30 minutes to do the upgrade if you already have our Version1 Fuel System (no extra drilling or modifications need to be made to the factory fuel pump assembly).
There is one issue that is not completely resolvable, but we want to make sure all users understand the how’s, what’s, and whys of the issue. Due to the fact that we are using the return side of the new fuel pressure regulator to activate the factory siphon system there is the possibility that at high boost levels, for extended periods of time (most likely when on the dyno), with low tank levels, the siphon system could become inactive. In other words, there is the possibility that the fuel system may not be able to supply fuel due to loss of fuel in the canister assembly. Please note that this is only in extreme conditions and the following criteria must ALL be met:
1. Low tank level
&
2. High Base Fuel Pressure or High Boost (or combination of the two)
&
3. Extended Running at High Base Pressure or High Boost (or combination of the two)
&
4. High fuel consumption by the motor
This issue is caused by how the return system operates in conjunction with the siphon system and how the target fuel pressure is achieved. Return style fuel pressure regulators use a clamping system to regulate pressure at the rails. This works by restricting the flow of fuel through the return side of the regulator. As the flow is cut off the fuel flow on the return side is cut down significantly. This lowers the amount of fuel feed to the siphon powering system. Although this possibility is rare and almost impossible to create we felt it was necessary to make everyone aware. This style design utilizing a return & siphon system is used in other production vehicles, one in which we have experience with is the 2nd generation Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo AWD.
From the picture below it should be noted the time and care that was taken to ensure a completely custom, quality install and finish. We went through 3 different iterations of plug, line, and fitting, before coming to an acceptable fit and finish, that matches the quality of the AAM Return System Kit. As you can see these parts are not something that can be picked up at your local Home Depot. During testing we found that the larger outside diameter of flexible hosing caused the tank to distort and increased the difficulty of install tremendously. Band clamps were determined to be a possible failure point and may eventually breakdown in the pump assembly. We use full stainless and aluminum fittings to ensure best fit and reliability. The stainless braided line is coated with a clear fuel safe coating to protect against electrical shorts or abrasion.

Any current Version1 customer will be provided the Version2 upgrade free of charge. If you have the Version1 system and would like to upgrade, please send an e-mail to Sales@alteredatmosphere.com (subject: Version2 upgrade, Sales Order/Invoice number, and current shipping address). We expect to be able to send out the Version2 upgrades within two weeks.
We will also be offering the fuel pump assembly/siphon driving portion of our Version2 Fuel System separately for purchase. This will benefit anyone who has put together their own return style fuel system and would like to restore use of the factory siphon system. Our design is available for $89 plus shipping. This includes the in tank fuel line (pre-assembled), 4AN bulk-head fitting, o-rings, AAM Return Style fuel pressure plug, and detailed directions for easy installation.
Sincerely
The Staff @ Altered

Yes... its all one in the same... this is exactly what we did a few weeks ago to correct an issue we found with previous return systems... inspired by the engineers at APS we simply replicated what they were doing for this... being that it really is the only logical way to do it.
The EFI rated hose with clamps is definatly a reliable way to do it, considering most cars come from the factory like that such as the 300ZX, Supra, MR2, etc etc... So you definatly shouldnt worry about the hose failing... but the crimped line definatly looks nicer inside the tank... more expensive material there to justify the extra $15.
I think its cool AAM is offering these for FREE to existing AAM kit owners.. gotta give props on that! Thats good business ethics if you ask me.
