Gauge Placement for Turbo Kit??
Thought about putting this in the "Interior Forum", but who knows better than the FI guys where to locate Wideband, Boost, and Fuel Pressure gauges?
For security in my roadster, I'm thinking of putting the boost and fuel pressure gauges in the center cubby(where Nav would go) and fitting the wideband into the spot where the ampmeter currently sits. I think a pillar mount is just begging to be stolen.
While I'm asking: Is there any functional reason to remove the stock grill when running an intercooler? Is it just to show off the I/C?
I appreciate your comments.
Thanks,
Bruce

Looks good. I think I'll use one of the stock gauge locations and put the other two in the center storage area. Your G-Tech and pillar-mounted gauges would be much too tempting for a thief, and I have to be extra aware of that with a Roadster.
I had a guy throw a rock through my 280Zs passenger window and steal my V1 in broad daylight while I was parked in a patrolled parking lot years ago. I keep everything out of sight now.

Issue with the cubby mounting , is you need to take your eyes off the road to glance those gauges. A-pillars are very easy to glance and safer. Personally I put the Boost, EGT and A/F in the pillar (all the FI specific guages) and Fuel PSI, OIL psi and Oil temp in the center or cubby. That is kinda my G35 arrangement.
Nice placement. If I wasn't so concerned about "prying eyes", I'd do the same thing. Maybe I should stop worrying about security and buy a triple-pod. It's not like I'm ever going to leave my car outside, alone, for any length of time. We take my wifes' car whenever that's the case......

Are the Defi-Ds the gauges that are all-black until you power them up? Six gauges plus the stock gauges sounds like a lot going on....... You a 747 pilot in your spare time?

The Ds match the OEM guages perfectly in day and night and are in US measures.
Pilot no , engineer yes.
The designers of the G35 made some semi re--arded decisions.
The OEM center cluster has a compass ,interior and exterior temp readout , Doi. Why would I need this info in my face all the time?
Oh yeh and a button to turn off the compass, wah??
Do they think a driver will freek out if he knows which way he's pointing , double doi....They could at leas ttoggle the comapss readout for somethin usefull like oil psi , volts etc. , no it just goes black...
They could've at least put similar telemetry as the Z-there.
Hell the tire psi warning doesn't even tell you which tire is low , let alone the actual psi reading......
I geuss their thinin is that the country club set will drive Gs and that set can change a light bulb?

That was an eye-opener. I've never even looked in a G-car, so I had no idea the dash/guage setup was so different. I agree with you completely.

Thanks for the contact info and even more for the picture.
That's a slick looking installation. I wasn't sure what they looked like until I saw it. I have a stainless piece with two gauges that was made for the same space. I think I'll use it and mount my wideband in place of one of the factory gauges, or in the door A/C vent. I never look at my voltmeter anyway.
Thanks,
Bruce
