Default Vortech Supercharger

Hey I have a 2004 red 350z im thinking of installing a Vortech supercharger. I would like to know how significant the power increase feels and if anyone with the kid feels its worth the money. Thanks Russell

Stop "thinking" and start "installing"! How "significant" would adding 120-140 rwhp feel? VERY significant! Woth the money? I think so, but I sure others will respond to your questions.

Hey Russell. The feel of a super-charged Z is absolutely amazing. It becomes a completely different car with forced-induction. I say if you have the means, and you don't mind the effect on your warranty and potential longevity of your engine, go for it. A conservative tune will give you a safe, daily driveable car with a mean streak that shows itself every time your right foot moves toward the carpet.

The Vortech kit is a great kit that has proven itself in this market.

Good luck!

I have had absolutely no problems with my car since install of the sc, and I have loved every minute of it. Whatever you do, buy the smaller pulley and you won't regret it.

I'm installing mine today and tomorrow and will let you know how the first drive feels. Right now, I feel like a guest on Tuner Transformation waiting for their newly pimped car to have the wraps pulled off.

After two marathon days, the Vortech is in. The entire character of the car has changed when over 3K RPM. Below, it feels peppier but pretty normal. From 3 to 6K it's like a jet engine roaring with an incredible whoosh as your body gets pinned back into the seat. What a trip!

The kit is a marvel of engineering and fits like a hand in a glove with very little wiggle room. From the moment I started the car, without any tuning, the engine ran perfectly. Two problems--my oil pan is leaking slightly and the toothed gilmer belt is loose even with the pulley on the max tight setting. Even so, everything is running fine.

If you want smooth, linear power with an intoxicating sound as the horsepower zooms into hyperspace, then definitely go with an SC. Have it installed by a pro. My part of the install was extremely difficult and I didn't do it quite right (bracket, blower and piping. The wiring I did with a patch cable was perfect).

You dont want that toothed cog belt to tight . Its not needed and it puts strain on the jackshaft

Correct. I called Vortech today. Apparently, it's normal to set the gilmer belt tensioner pulley all the way "tight" (down to the left) and still have the toothed belt loose on the underside (about 1" of play). This will avoid any damage to the jack shaft while giving plenty of contact between the belt and the toothed pulleys. If the belt starts jumping teeth or gets chewed up, then I'll have to get a smaller belt or a larger tensioner pulley.
