Default torque curve of built VQ TT vs RB26DETT?

hi all,

i'm still trying to decide which route i'm looking to go with. my goal is a reliable 500whp (on 91 octane) with potential for more in the future.

its still tempting to swap in an rb26dett. my car theoretically has no a/c (no jdm controls), traction control or abs (fuse pulled), so i won't be losing any electronic nannies if i do an rb26 swap. getting the windows to work is just some rewiring and/or new switches.

one thing i never considered is the torque curve. the 2.6L RB (built/tuned ofcourse) should produce less torque, and later, then a built TT vq, correct? i know turbo sizing, cams, and a lot of other factors can come into play, but i'm only speaking in general terms.

since the VQ has an extra 0.9L of displacement, could I expect in most situations for the VQ to have a better torque curve, and midrange?

I would guess a VQ35DE would give a better torque result and torque curve than a RB26DETT. If you are wanting 500rwhp, it wouldn't be hard at all with just a turbo kit and other mods (pistons, rods, arp head and main studs, fuel supply (if not in the turbo kit), engine management (also, if not in the turbo kit)).

Torque and displacment go hand and hand so yes, your going to have a bit less torque and midrange/lowrange with the RB26 then the VQ35. Other then that, the RB26 is good for 800 rwhp on stock internals and an inline 6 will rev smoother and higher. If you can do w/o the electronics and A/C, got the money and expertise to do it, best of luck to you and please keep us posted on your progress.

Why pay 4-5k for engine and tranny. Then 3k for standalone. then another 5k to make that thing fit in there. Plus you would need an upgraded turbo kit to reah 500 whp. Another 3k4-k on top of that.

500 whp on 91 octane is going to be hard. You better get rid of that **** water and try to find some 93 or 94.

Correct me if Im wrong, I was under the impression that inline engines tend to create good torque...though obviously nowhere close the VQs, considering its displacment advantage.

Not to mention the larger displacement of the VQ35DE vs. the RB26DETT.

WEll considering the electronic system for the entire car is part of the CAN system including gauges it may be more then ac and windows you have to re-wire...
