The cutout works by welding into your stock or modified exhaust. They can be placed anywhere after the headers. To open the cutout you press a switch, which opens cutout, releasing your exhaust. This enables you to bypass your muffler, increasing horsepower and giving your car an extremely throaty rumble.

We all know the best exhaust system for FI is none at all. This is a great idea to keep the "sleeper look" and have the performance when you want it (at the track).

I like the idea because cops won't pull me over and give me a $110 ticket for aftermarket exhaust system.

so this would be on after the Y pipe?

seems like it'd draw the same amount of noise attention as getting test pipes

You can place it anywhere before the mufflers. It will only draw attention when the cutout is open. When its closed the exhaust gases are routed thru the stock catback.

how would tuning be effected by this? i.e. if you tuned it with the cutout open, would it run rich when it's closed?

you tune with the cutout OPEN.

now they have a cutout that is vaccum operated. made by www.atpturbo.com

I think you would have to have a way to switch from one tune to the other . The tune for the muffler would end up being lean when the cut out is open

oh and the quicktime cutouts fall apart.... the motors fall out..

here's a picture of the ATP vaccum operated one.. you could probably put a boost controller on it too to make it open at the desired PSI ..lol pretty neat.

accordfreak, when you had the cutout open, did you smell exhaust inside the vehicle? I know it's all pretty well sealed, but I would think at idle if you had your windows down and the cutout open that you'd be smelling a lot of fumes...

Hmm... all I gotta say is.... very interesting. I've seen cars something very similar but you have to wrench out the bolts to open it up...but I've never seen it done electronically.

I had it on my GTP right after the cat. The engine was SC 9:5 compression ratio and it sounded like a chainsaw at high rpms. At lower rpms it rumbled. I wouldn't leave this open very long cause it was freaking loud. It's fun to taunt people with it.

I don't think it helps much if you already have a good free flowing exhaust. It did nothing for me at the track.

I have a DMH 3" cutout valve on my drag car. It dumps at the downpipe right after the wbO2, works great I love it. The car sounds like a jet with it open cause you can hear the turbine blade cutting the exhaust gas, heh.

The ideal setup would be two 2.5" cutouts before the cats, but that would be hard. It would be cool to fab some test pipes with resonators and then the dump, it bet it would sound mean after the turbine and a resonator.

edit: It would be ideal to attach a sidepipe or something after the valve. I would totally build an exhaust system like this if people were interested. NHRA rules state a dump has to be behind the cabbin so the sidepipes would be legal.

Can this be installed with my Evo2 exhaust? Its not a bad idea and sounds mean opened up. Not only that, I am sure it will give more HP on an F/I car.
