Hey Z Fans:

I just got back my Z after three weeks of professional installation of my Vortech Supercharger. Before the install, I had already installed the Borla True Dual Cat Back exhaust, and Borla headers.

Boy, am I glad I had this professionally done. Z Car Garage did the install, and it really well done. I'm not a mechanic, and I know I paid a lot of extra money to have it professionally done. Just tuning the car on the dyno produced an extra 40 horsepower, which I don't think an inexperienced garage mechanic would have the talent to do!

I wound up with 383 H.P. at thej rear wheels, starting from a base of 235 H.P. at the rear wheels from stock. Z Car Garage tells me I can get an extra 20 H.P. if I remove the cats, but I don't want a hassle com California smog time.

The installation is not only beautiful, it looks absolutely factory except for some custom painting I had done on the engine cover, and the polished plenum and SC. I also opted for an oil cooler, larger race prepared radiator, intercooler, and high performance cam. I also opted for the three guage pod for water temperature, oil temperature, and boost guage. 7.5 lbs of boost is what they recommend for reliablilty. More boost can get you over 450 H.P. but I saw the Fast and the Furious! I'd rather not have everything blow up in my face!

The Z takes on a whole different personality with the SC. Around town, you'd never know anything was different except for the beautiful whine from the SC(I went for the silencer), and of course rather terrible gas mileage, which wasn't a surprise, and it's not my daily driver.

Hope this information is useful. Enjoy your Z

Marcus

Can you list your mods for the 383whp ? You stated Borla Exhaust & Headers ... but it seems like you have a lot more then just that.

Default Here's what I did to get 383 whp.

In order to get the most out of the Vortec Supercharger, my installer, Z Car Garage said I would need to following items besides just the supercharger.

High Performance Cam
Racing Radiator
Oil Cooler
Intercooler
Headers
True Dual Exhaust

But tuning the car properly on the dyno after the above mods, is what gives you the max increase. They did 15 dyno runs to get the best tuning. Without thisw tuning, I would have lost 40 HP. They want me to remove the cats, and get an additional 20 horsepower, which would dyno me at over 400 whp, but I don't want to hastle with California Smog.

This why I feel the weekend garage mechanic is not best suited to get the most out of the car. It's expensive, but well worth the price in my opinion.

Call Rob at Z Car Garage in San Jose to get the full info.

Nice thats some good #s with just those mods.... I though you also said in a previous post that you had a plenum as well. Did you have that too? Also what cam did you go with ? Any chance I can see the dyno or you can e-mail it to me?

kderentz@gmail.com

Also is that on 91 crap CA gas ?

Thanks!

I can fax you a copy of my Dyno. Give me a fax number. I am out of the country right now, and won't be returning unil August 15. So I'll get it to you upon my return.

I just had the plenum polished, it's the original one that came with the car. Yes, that's on Crap 91 octance California gas!

Default Supercharger questions

Dudes,
I'll admit I really don't know jack about superchargers. However that doesn't stop me from wanting one for my Z. Do you have to change anything on the drive train when you supercharge? If I put a super on my car and step on the gas am I going to blow my engine or drive?

What's recommended, at least by Stillen, is a stronger clutch, lighter flywheel and limited slip diff. Stillen does provide the reflash as part of their kit. Stillen will warrant their kit AND your engine for 3 yrs/36k miles.

You can go more radical and tweak the hell out of a twin turbo or supercharger set up but then you definitely will have some engine problems unless you stiffen the bottom end, got through the heads, replace the cams with higher duration and lift spec'd cams, etc...

My approach is the Stillen Stage 2 (CARB Certified) installed first then some selective Stage 3 upgrades. I will be adding the stronger clutch, lighter flywheel and lsd when the Stage 2 goes in.

Hope this helps!

Was it difficult to install the Stillen Procharger. I am planning on going to San Diego so Stillen can install my supercharger. Is it worth the trip or any certified mechanic can install the supercharger?

If there are any more 350z owners with a Stillen Supercharger I would like to hear your comments.

first, ati makes the "procharger", not stillen. second, stillen is in orange county iirc, about 100 mi north of san diego.

Z Boy if I wanted an English class I would of asked for corrections. If you do not have any answers then keep your words to yourself. This is what makes this forum not worth the time to visit and your comments only takes away from any trust in the site. I will just ask someone with more knowledge a little more educated.
