Seems like a twin turbo is the only reasonable bet on a V engine, so hopefully there is room! Does anyone here know if a single turbo config has ever been done on a V engine? (V6, V8, etc.) Seems like it would be a *huge* pain in the rear to do a single on a V.

Typically you hang a turbo straight off the exhaust manifold. On a V engine, since there are two exhaust manifolds (one on each side of the engine) it seems like mounting a turbo on each manifold would be much easier than trying to do a single turbo and having to run exhaust pipes from each manifold up into one turbo. Ugh.

On that note, every factory turbocharged V engine I can think of uses twin turbos... one on each manifold. (Audi S4, RS4, RS6, R8 racecar, Porsche 959, Ferrari F40?... probably tons of others.)

I would guess the reason Supra guys can do single turbo conversions is because the Supra uses an I6 engine, not a V6. (right?)

Disclaimer: If you find any of the info I provided above to be incorrect, remain calm! A polite correction is always preferred over an angry flame.

I may be mistaken but I believe the 350 only has 1 throttle body, so a 2 turbo setup may have to be sequential rather than twin.

You can do twin turbos (as many as you like, actually) into one throttle body. Audi does this, for example. On their S4 and RS4, you've got a turbo coming off of each exhaust manifold. The compressor outlet pipes of each turbo just combine together into one just before connecting to the throttle body.

You can do a single turbo on a V engine. There is a kit out there for the LS1 Trans Am and Z28, which uses 1 turbo. A crossover pipe is used to connect the other bank to the turbo.

There is no "better". That's a stupid question. They're different and there have been multiple threads discussing the topic. Do some research and find out what you would like more.

Just to let you know, don't think that SC's require no maintance b/c people stereotype them to be so reliable. If you do any FI expect to do a lot of maintance or you will definately have problems (you know, if you "french fry" instead of "pizza")(i hope somebody got that).

Greddy makes a twin turbo kit, so I can only assume there is room.

Welcome to the forum Real Lone - you have revived a 17year old thread … might be a record! Regardless -

At this point in time I believe Vortech is (likely) the only company that is actively making superchargers these days…

Unless you are 10,000% deadset on a supercharger you should consider a turbo kit. You may have more options and better luck finding what you want.

HKS still does and soon Z1, but they are all centrifugal units.
