Default Removing engine without transmission?

Hey guys..

Sharif and I were talking about this the other day... I've seen a picture somewhere of an engine out of the car with the transmission still in... we were wondering how they did it. I'm doing an engine swap myself... its on the top of this forum if you want to check.. anway I'm trying to think of how to do this without removing the tranny...

After thinking and talking about it and reading the service manual... heres what i think I can do... I just like to plan ahead and get some advice...

If I can lower the engine with the transmission ( I have my car up on cynderblocks about 18" higher, to almost the ground.... could I then go under the car behind the engine and disconnect the transmission from the engine, then put the transmission back up and hold it there with something? Thats one idea..

The other one is if I can get to the mounting backets on the engine I could take it out without lowering it at all sliding it out forward...

Either way im looking for a way to keep the transmission in.. I'm trying to design a tutorial for do-it-yourselfers, since im doing it myself, so people can save themselves the stress of taking out the tranny making it a little easier with less things they can damage..

Any opinions on how to do this... or does anyone know how it was done? Thanks!

Take the trans out. Then remove engine from top side. The trans only takes about 45 minutes to remove and allows entry to other parts that need to removed any way.

Is that on a lift... or on cynderblocks
If on cynderblocks what did you use to secure the tranny?
A tansmission jack or something makeshift?

On a lift, but you will want to remove the trans which is lite enough for one person to handle.

Leaving the rear tranny mount in and supporting the front of the tranny with a jack allows you to remove the bellhousing bolts and slide the engine frontwards and off the input shaft. Then lift the motor up and out the top. Radiator recommended to come out though. It has been done with ease. Check out the post over on www.350Z-TEC*.com Talk to Daking.

thanks... one of the options I was looking for..
Not really a necessity... I can pull the tranny...
But i dont have the luxury of lift so it would be pretty crampt...

Let me see what info I can dig up... and be sure Ill put how to do it on my write up... wether i found out how to do it or not...
