I searched for this info on here but found nothing...
I have a chance to buy a motor that came from a 2002 maxima 3.5l vq35de. I just want to buy the engine and build the block. But will i be able to swap block directly with the 350z once it has been built with no hassle? or will i have to make new engine mounts?

The Maxima/Altima/etc use a different block than the 350Z/G35/Murano/FX35.

For the easiest swap, I'd buy a 350Z or G35 block -- it will save you a lot of hassle.

Yes, avoid the FWD VQ motors...they are no compatible with our cars. The block housing is totally different.

G35/350Z, and make sure to get a 6spd version...assuming you have a 6 speed.

Why would you need a 6spd version? How does it differ from a 5at? I would think that you could use a 5AT with a 6MT with little problem?

The only difference between the 5at and 6mt is a bushing on the end of the crank on the automatic. This needs to be removed and the engine will bolt up to the 6spd tranny. This was an issue with another forum but was addressed by removing the bushing. I thin one of the dowels needed to be moved too...but thats it.

Thats what I was thinking.

I have a 5AT vq35de out of a G35 sedan. I'm pretty sure it'll drop right in to any z or g.

correct...I am just saying that for a perfect drop in solution, get the approrpriate block for your tranny type. I know sometimes you are dealing with cores, so you may not know what you have...until you get it!

Actually guys, the only differnence between the FWD and RWD VQ blocks is the motor mount locations and types. Otherwise they are identical. It really wouldn't be worth the trouble of having custom mounts made to put a FWD VQ in a 350Z...but it could be done.

wouldn't the block design be the same? i mean they're all VQ's. ARe there holes that needs to be drilled and taped for the 350z motor mounts to bolt on to? picture of the difference would be nice.

i have a question about 03-07 350z motor mount as well, would the stock 03-07 350z motor moutn and g35x or just g35 driver side motor mount fit onto a 2004 fx35 awd? are all of these motor mounts compatible with each other? thanks, because i called an nissan dealer and they said it wouldnt fit, but from read in some that the engines from 350z/g35/fx35 are the same so would the motor mounts do as well? thank you

The engine would be the same but the motor mounts would be different

You can check their catalog and they will show you what they are compatible with

correct. The different engine mounts are how they fit the same motor into different cars. Otherwise all the vehicles would have to have the same subframe and that's just not feasible.

i see thanks, because ive also seen some websites selling these mounts and it says the g35 and 350z were compatible but i figured maybe the fx too lol. ok thanks for the help and info

For G35 They are almost $200 a piece

The decent aftermarket oem ones I seen are around $60

I say it's ok to go aftermarket

The FWD blocks are a different cast, with the motor mount attachment points being in different locations.
