Default greddy turbo seal went bad need help.

My tt Z is blowing somke like crazy so I checked the intake shaft of the turbos and there was very little play upand down and left and right but none in and out so I thought it was my motor that took a dive. but as I looked closely my tubing and IC were full of oil. I started the car with no tubing connected to the turbos and there was no smoke coming from the car then I looked at the turbos and noticed oil spraying from the passenger turbo on the forced induction side. will greddy replace the turbos they are less than a year old?

They should. They dont offer a warranty against improper installation, but they should offer some kind of parts replacement warranty. Ask the vendor from which you bought the kit.

The good news is that even if they wont replace it, rebuilding that turbo is very inexpensive. Since it uses conventional thrust bearings.

How many miles were on that thing? This is the first Greddy TT kit i have seen leak oil from the seals.

I had a problem with them with defective parts on another car. I usually try to avoid their products. (Though sometimes I can't resist, these cheap deals on used TT kits always catch my eye!)

yea but honestly dont for one second think that ANY manufacturer of these kits is gonna stand up and just warrenty a turbo for you. You will always get blamed for the problem... in this circumstance you will hear exactly this: "We sell over 1000 turbos every year and we have never had a single one that was actually was defective and didnt fail due to improper installation".

Its always that... but you cant blame them really, cause they are right in most circumstances.... these turbos are not built by small companies just to fill orders... they go thru strict manufacturing procedures and the chances that one failed under its intended circumstances are next to nothing.

Like anything it has its truely intended operating range... there are so many circumstances to consider... in this situation Greddy has every right to say they only intended these turbos to be run at 5.5 psi... or they could say you didnt properly cool them before shutting down... etc etc... its kinda like with the police, they can always find some law your breaking and pull you over if they want.

I would be very surprised if they actually take care of this for the guy... the owners best bet is to call Greddy and wait thru their technique of putting you on hold and hoping you just hang up after 15 min (thats what it feels like anyway), and then be as polite and resonable as possible.

Just rebuild it...its cheaper than spending several hours on the phone trying to get it fixed...IMHO.
