Default APS ST question

I realize that the installation instructions for the kit have not yet been released, but i was wondering if the APS single turbo kit could be installed by someone like myself in their garage with basic tools and basic knowledge about cars. By basic knowledge, I mean that all I've ever really done with my car is change the oil and install the K&N cai and Greddy EVO2 exhaust, neither of which I found too challenging. I actually rather enjoyed it.

What I'd like to do is install the kit and gauges myself, save a load of money, and then take it to SPG to have it dyno tuned. Would you recommend this, or am I wanting to bite off more than I can chew here? If APS could chime in too, that'd be great

APS Peter has said than an average guy with decent tools should be able to install this kit in one weekend.

Personally, I wouldn't attempt it without a lift and good tools including line wrenches.

I plan on having mine bolted on by a Nissan mechanic on a Saturday (with me assisting), then driving to SGP on Monday to have it checked and tuned.

There is no doubt you CAN do it. But you might get a bit stressed out and feel like the project is over your head. So my advise is that if you are a cool headed guy, and dont mind a week of downtime (worse case scenario), then give it a shot.

But otherwise, have a professional install it for you.

It's probably a ~10 hour job with a buddy. That and another ~10 hours of troubleshooting i.e. poor instructions, wrong tools, trips to the hardware store because of incomplete parts, stubborn bolts, hunger, beer, fatigue.

The hardest part sounds like getting under the car and removing the manifolds. If you have an extra car and a good buffer of days than by all means do it.

Manifolds stay in the ST kit.

Anyone who's installed an APS TT kit, how complete were the parts and instructions?

I hate having to run the the HW/Parts store over and over again. A good set of tools will be in the facility, I was just planning on bringing anti-sieze, lock tite, teflon tape, and electrical stuff (to do the zeitronix).

BTW, does the Zietronix come with the bungs, silicone tubing, probe, etc?

You could certainly could give it a go that's for sure and it's an excellent way to learn a little more about your car.

If you start the single intercooled turbo conversion then find it too time consuming or difficult you could easily put the car back to stock and have an experienced shop like SGP do the conversion for you, the guys at SGP (Mark and Kyle) are very experienced with FI and I rate their shop and customer service very highly.

That's exactly my plan. I was going to drive down and have them dyno tune it for me the following weekend.

Well you're in very good hands if you are working with the guys at SGP, maybe you should get a quote from the guys to do the install for you as well as the dyno tuning.

I'll be doing the same thing (though SGP is only 20 minutes from me!).

If there's enough southern Z's who'll be going in on this group buy maybe we could have a dyno day @ SGP and get a better rate on tuning. Maybe the cars will be easier to tune because everything will be set up to do these ST kits.
