Exclamation 350zDCalb is BACK from the dead!!!

So... after a long awaited 4 months...I took delivery of my car tonight...i would like to share a few things:
1) injector issue and temporary solution
2) car dying when letting rpms descend rapidly
3) clutch feel and sound
4) i'll think of more later

ok...
1) I was supposed to take delivery of my car last week, but on thursay they informed me that one of my 550cc rc injectors was stuck wide open, dumping fuel and resulting in that corresponding cylinder to not fire!
ok, so i contacted rc in california, i paid to have them overnight another 550cc injector..and it came in friday morning...assumed the problem was solved
BTW...my tuner performed several tests to rule out any other type of failure resulting in similar symptomatology, everything else was ruled out-the injector was the culprit..hmmm, very uncommon as i have been told

soooo, friday was spent getting ernie's car done (yes, both of our cars were done at the same shop-SPEEDLAB)..so my car again got a step away from completion.
today, ernie's car was dynoed as my car was completed...about 6pm tonight, brody @ speedlab calls and says the following, "You are not gonna f%$king believe this"... (this is never a comforting way to start a conversation with your mechanic)
...so, where was i..oh yeah, "You are not gonna f%$king believe this, you know the problem we had with the 550 injector being stuck open, well the new one they just sent you is doing the same EXACT thing"
I questioned how he reached this conclusion..he ruled all other possibilities out..confirmed he didn't accidently put the old faulty one back in a second time, took another 550cc injector off the other rail and tested it--worked fine...took a 440cc injector from my greddy kit and tested it on the same port of the fuel rail--worked perfectly...so, again, my lucky day--- the rare faulty injector- i got 2 of em in a row...(sharif compares this to winning the lottery twice in a row..brody added to this statement...it's like winning the lottery twice, and then getting struck by lightening!)
so they put in my 440cc injectors and i'll break in on those for the next couple of days..they'll swap them for the 550cc before dynoing
QUESTION: my car was tuned for the 440's before i blew up...the same tune is in there, with 440's again, now on a 9.0:1 CR forged internalled motor and aam fuel system..no changes were made for my street tune...seems to drive very well..A/F ration difficult to read since i don't stay in any gear that long..seem to hand around 14:1...any ideas/comments?

so, monday, i will contact rc and have them send me 3 injectors (hopefully at no charge) i will send back the other two when one of them functions properly!!! i know these are tested prior to sending out , even come with the fancy flow printout..hmmmm

ok...
2)My car drives perfectly...revs up very fast (too fast for a 1000 mile breakin--i just wouldn't be able to resist-that's one of the reasons i'm doing the couple hundred mile breakin dealy)
but, when i let of the gas and rpms drop rapidly, it at times (every other time it seems) bounces below 1000rpm and then the car dies, i turn the key and it immediately starts back up--any ideas??? ecu trying to do something here??? maf/map issue??? i don't know???

3) my clutch is a bit noisier than ernie's..even though they are the same clutch on almost identicle motors...but anyway..
engages strong, easy enough to get used to..looking forward to feeling it at 6000 rpms and 15+ psi!!!

4)i'll get back to you as more comes up...
my plan as of now..tomorrow, my friend and i will install my tein flex with edfc (thanks gq_626 --> www.forgedinternals.com) get rc to overnight the 3 injectors for tues, swap those out, dyno tues night, roll my fenders..get my wheels in wed (19" 10.5/9.5 volk gtc raised metal coat finish)..then my car will be tuned to 12psi and ready to go by wed/thur or so...

Any advice from the pros is greatly appreciated!!!

if your engine has cams then the problem you have with it stalling is normal and you need to raise the idle.

depending on what clutch you have, the clutch noise you speak of may actually be the transmission itself and some 350z trans make more sounds than others when you put on a clutch/flywheel. personally mine makes tons of annoying sound, where other customers of mine with the same clutch are not getting as loud of sounds. these are actually transmission sounds. twin disk clutches tho do make a lot of sound.

sucks about the injectors.

.

i don't have cams...would the same tune,w/ the same injectors as before, w/ the higher pressure fuel system have anything to do with it?

oh yeah, and since its been so long, when you add fuel w/ the e-o1, do you chnage the figure on the table and then "export" to the e-manage...someone pls describe the steps for me

thx

Hey man....if you are at 14:1 under power then stay out of it or you will have a repeat of your first motor. Even forged motors will pop if they go lean....just ask Gurgen. Hopefully you have that ratio because you are not at full throttle yet...but even under partial throttle that's pretty lean. Have you had anyone look at your 440cc map to see if it is safe???

define safe???... the a/f shows on the aem 13.5:1 or so when i'm driving 1/4-1/2 throttle , never seeing more than 4-5 lbs of boost, never going above 4000/4500 rpms

I think if you are at 5 lbs of boost and you have ratios close to 14 you are unsafe. Many motors have blown under partial throttle when they were lean. I would not do any driving with the car until it is tuned with the 550's. I know it is hard but you are running the same tune you had when it blew up the first time.....be careful!! Just my 2c

Talking Just finisherd inatalling Tein w/EDFC-thank you mr grinder!!!

I just finished installing my new set of Tein Flex w/ EDFC with a friend of mine...we started at 1pm and finished at about 9pm, roughly took us 8 hours with a few mistakes and hurdles..i'll share my story for anyone else wanting to do-it-yourself...pm me if you have any questions, i learned many little "shortcuts" that would save time doing this a second time!

First of all, get a grinder!!! we could not have done this job without6 cutting some metal (there are other ways around it, but with a descent set of tools and patience running dry, the grinder got us out of a few PITA hurdles:
1) the little tool that comes with the Tein Flex that you need to use to remove the front shock inserts (to swap out for the ones designed for the EDFC) did not fit in the front shock assembly!?!...the tool also, was unecessarily made out of space age tick-a$$ steel, so you couldn't easily bend it and still get the job done...the japanese are laughing at us stupid americans!!!
so...mr grinder came in handy...we cut the tool down to size so it would fit...and we got the job done...

2) the rear springs, to remove them, you lower the perch slowly with a jack, the problem id you have a borla true dual exhaust, is the perch only lowers so much, until it hits the exhaust...so as i began to disassemble my exhaust, i thought...hmmmm, grinder came in handy for the tool fabrication, maybe it would help me out here as well...so i cut the rear springs with the grinder, they came off in under a minute---ha!

3) to run the EDFC to the rear shocks, you must first pull all of the plastics off of the rear strut tower assembly...that was a PITA...but it didn't end there...after consulting w/ sharif (gq_626--how great is it, this guys sells this stuff and he provides the support needed for his customers to bug him on a sunday when he's trying to hang out with his girlfriend, so i can find out how the hell to get access to the shock--thanks again man!)...i decided to pull out the grinder one last time, i made little 1" rectangles near the top of the rear strut tower brace so i could run the lines to the EDFC

SO, we got it all wired, installed and working, unfortunately it was raining by the time we were done, and i still haven't got my new volks (hopefully wed), so i won't be able to experience the full effect until tomorrow..it dropped my car abnout an inch all around, maybe slightly more...looks much better than stock!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
My driving experience with my new motor..
so, when giving a bit more than 1/2 throttle, the A/F immediately goes from 14:1 to 11.5:1 or so...the old tune that was on my stock motor seems to be PERFECT for my 9.0:1 CR built motor w/ AAM fuel system...maybe a bit rich, but at least safe in my mind in the breakin (remember i'm doimng the crazy man's break-in--should dyno tues night!!!)
so, i am not going over 4500 rpm, but still making some boost...the car is incredibly fast!!!! can't imagine it any faster and i haven't even gone past 4500rpm!
the previous tune pulled 4-5 degrees of timing, so i am assuming that when we dyno, to be on the safe side, pull slighlt more timing...

Tomorrow, I go to SPEEDLAB to have them install the EDFC controller (they'll do a better job at custom fitting that in and making it look like it was there from the factory- i won't even attempt it)
I still have a problem with my car dying if i let off the gas rapidly and let the rpms fall quickly when coming to a stop..ANY IDEAS???...some had suggested it was the ECU trting to "relearn" or possibly not enough fuel at idle (i can prevent it from happening by driving heel/toe when coming to a stop and giving it a 1000 rmp dose of throttle)
I will call RC injectors first thing in the morning, have them overnight me 3 550cc injectors and send them back the other two that i don't need (i got 2 bad rc550's in a row--maybe a bad batch--they were both stuck wide open, flooded the cylinder with fuel and slowed down this project this weekend!!!--they swapped out the 550's for my previos 440's- i have those in until i get 6 550's that work!!!-WEIRD?!?!?!?)

I'll keep you all updated...very happy again!

Todd, congrats on getting the car back. You may want to check how tight and/or loose the BOV is set at. I had the same issue of my car dying when the BOV was too loose and leaking air. HTH.
