Default Vortech installed - have question!!!

well finally got a chance to install my vortech - been sitting in the garage since christmas and have a few questions. Please keep in mind, I am new to FI and have learned a lot about the Z from this install.

After taking the car out for its first drive, I noticed I was not getting full boost. I was only reaching just over 6lbs.. according to my gauge. Then decided to do some research, tightned the serpentine belt down and made sure all vaccumm lines were not kinked. Took it out, and made 8.2lbs for a couple of sprints consistently, then fell back around 7.6lbs. (maybe shift point not at redline)

So this brings me to my questions about the belt. I find it odd I have fine rubber dust on the underside of my hood and around the engine bay. Is it normal for the belt to wear like this? is it slipping on the jack shaft or rubbing? the side of the belt shows some wear on the edge, but only in a few places. The alignment of the belt looks great.

Addtionally, how tight is tight? I can rotate the belt just over a quarter turn turning clockwise. I think before i tightened it, i was able to turn it over half way clockwise.

My mods are kinetix high flow cats, Injen SES, and Zeitronix for A/F and boost - stock pulley.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the serp belt that you can turn clock wise ? If so 1/4 would be tight enough . Is the wear on the serp belt ? If so...its probably hitting on a bolt head on the front timing chain cover . The GoodYeaar belt will need to be tightened quite a few times after install...you may want to go with the Gates belt...its thicker and you will not have to tighten that much .

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard you should be able to twist a drive belt 1/4 turn for every 12 inches between two pulleys.

thanks for the replies... yes, the serp belt and yes the wear is on the serp belt as well. I will take another good look to see if it may be rubbing on something or a head bolt.

Is the gates belt available at any auto parts supply?

You might try NAPA.
