Which clutch is everyone using?
I am shopping for clutches and just wanted to get some input on them. I know a lot of people are running the ATS twin disc clutch, but damn its expensive! I would like to know if you guys would recommend getting the cheaper ones like the ACT or JWT?
I was saying the same thing about the ATS Twin Disc, but at soon as my old dual purpose motorcycle sells, I am buying one.
What people have told me is, you can get by on one of those single disc clutches for a while, but you will need to replace it eventually. So to the cost of buying one and replacing it later is equivalent to just buying the ATS from the beginning but without the headaches. Plus, you won't find a single disc with engagement anywhere near stock with that holding power like the ATS.

The selection of a clutch is very much dependent on the style of driving you plan on..and the power levels of the engine..It becomes a cost trade off much like 002-M-P says. Run it hard and hot and sooner rather than later it will burn out. Run it mostly moderate with occasional times hard and it will last longer. I drive the latter and find the JWT with 50% more clamping force than stock to be ideal for me..It also feels like the stock..

No doubt, the ATS twin and triples are a premium clutch. They operate so incredibly well, and last an extrememly long time. There are at least a half dozen of us using the clutch, and the engagement and feel is like stock, but they can hold between 700-1400whp at the max. All of this with a 9lb flywheel, and 25.6lb total assembled weight.
It really depends on your driving style...and you have to ask yourself the honest question. If all you do is drive around on the street, and rarely drag race your car, then by all means, any good ClutchMaster, ACT or standard disc clutch can do the job very well. But if you drag race...either on the street or track, and you have to slip the clutch, then single organic and semi-metallic full face disc will overheat, and can warp your flywheel and pressure plate surfaces...very quickly. If they overheat, they will not engage.
Most performance clutches can "hold 500whp/trq", but they can't adequately transfer that power seamlessely to the drivetrain.
Hope that helps with your decision. Whatever you decide, we sell them all: ATS, ACT, ClutchMaster. Here to help!
