Default Looking for 400 WHP best way to go for it

Do I go supercharged or turbo charged? I dont want to tap into the engines internal just yet. I just want a bolt on application. Supercharger seems attractive to me for right now. I dont know how I can get it up to 400 WHP though. My budget is 8k tell me if this is possible?

If not ill just get the greddy kit............

I wouldn't suggest boosting to 400whp...especially with a budget of $8k.

If going to 400 rwhp and staying within the $8k are your goals then the S/C would be the solution. It cost me approximately 6.5 k to achieve the hp. This includes the Vortech kit, install, tuning, ecu reflash, and gauges.

As far as safety if you have been following this forum you know more Turbos have had problems than S/C's. However, in both cases many seem to have been attributed to either poor tuning or poor engine management. Vortech seems to have had fewer problems than others. The new APS TT from early indications seem to have perhaps the most complete and well designed kit.

Personally I think if faced with the choice of available FI's on the market today I would opt for the APS TT. The Torque curve, hp, design, customer satisfaction to date put it at the top of the class for me at least..However it would exceed the $8k ..

If I was going for 400 rwp, Id do the Turbonetics single turbo kit. 8 psi is in the mid 380's with a very safe a/f on 91 oct, more if you have 93, 8.5 psi is right around 400 whp. Id do this kit with the APS oil pan, and the crank sensor cover, and I wouldnt worry about it blowing. And for the same price of a polished Vortech, Id take it any day over any s/c....its about $4700+change for the kit right now, plus around $600 for install, plus the APS oil pan you should fall under your $8000 budget.

but hes also gonna need a clutch, exhaust, and other supporting mods. plus tuning. it is possible for 8k but it would only be a work in progress.

Well theres always credit card for the supporting stuff. I am thinking Vortex or either of the APS kits. I just want a safe way around 400 WHP that I dont have to be under the car every week or day.

No tuning required for the Turbonetics kit other than sending in the ECU. You would need to be concerned with the kit, fuel system, CAS wire, possibly a fuel pan, and install. It really depends on where you're starting with, meaning you might already have a decent exhuast/plenum.

The clutch is another concern. You could run stock with this setup, but would burn through it pretty quick. Of course, a new clutch would eventually be a requirement regardless of what FI system you go with.

Minus the clutch you could do this for $8k.

What if you were to do the install yourself with a Turbonetics kit. Other than the cost of the kit what eles does everyone think is necassary to buy? i.e. what gauges, and other nic nacs?

get in on the APS Single Turbo GB over on Motoring... ~$5200-5300 and it comes with EVERYTHING you need except gauges - you can even stick with the stock exhaust if you want (no need for test pipes/cats b/c it comes with a 3.5" down pipe with a coupler that will allow you to remove the y-pipe and bolt it up to the stock exhaust)

it's about the best thing for the money right now - only problem would be that you're looking at around July-August until you'll have it on the car...

APS Single Turbo kit, Turbonetics Single Turbo kit, or the Vortech SC would be the best and safest options IMO. I have the exact same budget and I'm going APS ST because it gives me more of the stuff I want.

I agree, it depends on your proximity to an APS tuner though. I had a question on the 350zmotoring thread that has still gone unanswered...
