Default Exhaust requirements for Turbonetics...

After looking through multiple posts I cant seem to find the answer to my question.

i have a Borla TD. If I were to get the Turbonetics kit , would I have to get a different exhaust system ? would it be feasable to do a quick custom routing or a waste of time?

Would the manufacturer reccomend a good single pipe exhaust system?

Any large diameter y-pipe back exhaust will work well for you.

I have the same dilemma as you about my Borla. What I plan on doing is making a custom dual setup with XR1 mufflers (keeping with the Borla name) I figure I can get $500+ for my used Borla ... which will cover nearly the whole cost of the custom system.

I know that Speed Force Racing has been asked by MIAPLAYA to make him a custom setup using dual N1 mufflers and they said no problem. However, I don't know the price of it.

You "could" hack up the Borla ... but I wouldn't.

I talked to Injen Tech's and and Exhaust Systems Hawaii..... with a turbo kit there will be a loss of %28 sound......Resonators are there for legal reasons also but if you going with a turbo kit without cats who cares right.... it may sound a little raspier but no worse than test pipes.....

I dont have first hand experience....Just experts opinions

Thanks guys. One more question: Does the turbonetics system eliminate the cats, or is the 2 into one pipe after the cats?

Yes, cats are eliminated. You can keep your headers though.

So if you are planning to keep the stock exhaust do you need anything in addition to what you get in the TN kit?

As far as exhaust goes, no. However, most would consider the stock exhaust to be too restrictive for a turbo'd vq.

Well I thought I read somewhere ( could be wrong) that Turbonetics tested 1 or 2 after market exhaust systems and lost power. So the way I understood it was it was better to stay stock as far as the exhaust system goes......right now anyways.

I don't remember reading that anywhere. Perhaps you have this mixed up with some reports of losing power with an aftermarket exhaust on an NA car. With a turbo, you can never go wrong with a less restrictive exhuast. The turbonetics kit won't be an exception to that rule.

That sucks. Do you think there is any chance of passing smog with the turbonetics kit....

If not Do you think they will appear with a carb legal version of the kit???

Thanks. BTW the question is adressed to anyone who has an answer....

No chance the TN kit will pass smog. They are planning on releasing a version with a cat, but it would be very unlikely to be certified. Turbonetics and APS are pretty much in the same boat on this one...

Actually they DID post this, it's on the 60 page Turbonetics thread. The actual muffler on the stock 350Z exhaust is not very restrictive at all. The choking point is the cats and the y pipe. THis is the reason why there are dynos showing huge gains on stock exhaust with just a y pipe replacement. The stock exhaust (mid-pipe and muffler) will work just fine with the turbonetics kit.

The stock exhaust WILL work fine, but there are other exhaust that have more direct flow to the tips than the stock catback. Saying the stock exhaust flows every bit as well as a evo 2 or a pro-1 exhaust doesn't make sense to me.

I don't feel like pouring over 60 pages of post to find this one line, but I would take it with a grain of salt until I saw dyno sheets to prove it.
