Electric or Mecanical
What type of gauge is better? Is one type easier to install over the other? How are boost, e.g.t., and a/f hooked up electrically and vise versa how are they hooked up mecanically? Sorry for all the questions, still learning and trying to figure out what direction I will be going.
Electrical gauges are much easier to install, and offer extras such as warning lights and LED displays. For the price difference, you will probably spend less money overall if you go electrical, if you plan on having them professionaly installed. You get what you pay for.
Electrical gauges have wires leading to a sensor tapped into the product. Mechanical gauges actually have fuel, oil, boost lines ran to the gauge itself. Mechanical gauges are slightly more accurate.
In my Honduh days I had electrical boost/fuel pressure gauges with one mechanical oil pressure gauge (cause it's all they had when I bough the other two) inside my car and it did eventually spring a leak 6 months down the road and blow hot oil everywhere (what a mess, had to get new carpet!).
Mechanical gauges are better suited for under or on top of the hood. The slight advantage in accuracy are not worth the safety issues they create. Mechanical boost is ok, but not worth it either in terms of having to run a fat piece of silicone tubing inside the car. ELECTRICAL all the way!
