Stock pulley and gatorback belt right now. Squeals on startup and when revving at idle. Is it too loose? How do i tighten it if thats the case. Im also considering a smaller pulley, is the 3.12 the next smallest one up, and how much more boost will that give me? Also what belt size and brand should i get if i get the new pulleey. If i get the 3.12 will i need to adjust timing and fuel, as im on stock r4 maps right now. If andyone has an r4 file with the 3.12 pulley can i get a copy at freezo@shaw.ca Thanks.
If the belt squeals it is loose and needs to be tightened. You need the loosen the bolt on the accessory drive belt tensioner idler center nut. This is the pully that is located on the passenger side. It is the smooth one that tightens the belt. Then you get underneath the vehicle and turn the tensioner screw clockwise and tighten the belt so it have about 1/2" on play in it. If it is a new belt you will have to so this a few times until it works its self in.
Maybe some can answer your other question, but if you are boosting more I would assume that you would need to alter the ECU program so that you are pulling more timing and adding more fuel. I could be wrong though

If you are , or want to go to the 3.12 and are running the stock vortech maps , you maybe ok....BUT...I wouldnt trust it . I would have it tuned right away and not boost it to redline until then

Well i have the aem wideband to monitor a/f, and looking at the stock maps they dont retard timing till you hit 10psi. Should i pull 7 degrees at 9 psi then?
Im just worried about the timing, i can alway add fuel if it start to lean out.
If no one has changed any thing . The Vortech stock maps...pull timing out via rpm's . Starting at 4000rpm's [ i think ] and pull 10 degree's at 6500rpm .Some thing like 2,4,6,10 degree's
Belt squeek should be because the belt is loose. You can actually tighten it without getting under the car. Loosen the 14mm bolt on the adjustment pulley. Then, you can get at the 12mm adjustment bolt by reaching down between the pulleys and the radiator. You can do it with a standard size ratchet, but if you can get a 'shorty' ratchet, it is easier. Remember from this angle, to tighten, it will appear you are turning the bolt counter-clockwise. The belt is tight enough when you can only twist it only a little more than a 1/4 turn.
And I agree with booger... if you go 3.12" pulley, get the car retuned. I put that pulley on my car and did a test run at low rpm (under 3500). I noted a definite change in SC pitch and power. Immediately swapped the 3.33" back on until I have time to install the pulley AND tune the car immediately after.

Thats what I was going to say. I have skinny arms, but man its a real pain to get down there. Either you know the perfect way to do it or you have skinnier arms then me. Takes me me 5-10 min to tighten by jacking it up....and no cuts hehehe
I'm 6' 1" 210lb's ....dont have skinny arm....not huge either...but your right...I have to stand on the passenger side of the car and put my arm down in just the right spot or it gets stuck
Booger I was actually talking to mcduck. Hmmmm I haven't really tried it from the passenger side lol. Gonna go give that a try with my skinny arms, my belt actually need to be tightend lol

Its the smooth factory one that is on the passenger side. You don't have to take the nut off, just loosen it a little bit. Then there is a tensioner bolt bellow it, which makes the pully move up to tighten and down to loosen.
booger/Phaneom...
I guess I'm about the same build as booger... 6'0" and just over 200lbs. I stand in front of the car and reach both arms down using the left hand to hold the ratchet on the 12mm bolt and the right to tighten with the ratchet. I don't scratch myself at all, but it does get a bit uncomfortable if I am reaching down like this for more than a minute or two. And, I can only turn the ratchet 1 or 2 clicks at a time. Not an issue for a periodic tighten, but a big PITA if you are putting a fresh belt on. I DO NOT do this when the engine is hot.

Crap, no one told me i had to get the bolt going up under the pulley. Oh what a mess my arms are.

Works fine, only whistles at about 1800 rpm when slowing down.

Does anyone have a pic of the bolt that you actually tighten, to tighten the belt? I know which one to loosen but I can't seem to see the one you guys are talking about tightening. I'm scaring the neighborhood kids everytime I start this thing up, so I need to figure it out.
