Default Extra components for APS Twin Turbo

Hi all,

Don't post here much, but I'm quite an avid reader. Anyhow, I'm about to make the jump to an APS twin turbo setup, but wanted to know from your collective knowledge:

1) Would a true dual exhaust (ex. Borla) gain significant improvements over a y-pipe/single pipe exhaust (ex. Nismo)?- Looking at it from a turbulence perspective, but also looking at cost vs. benefit here

2) What kind of gain would be expected by adding cams, such as a JWT set?

3) For those of you that have an APS twin, how many miles put on the kit so far?- ok, I know I may be able to check around other posts for this one

4) What kind of peripherals, if any, did you add to your system?- upgraded radiator, oil cooler, etc.

1) Guys have run both with high hp set-ups and I think it's all about preference, sound and the look you desire. Gains of course will be higher on TT systems with the more free flowing the system.

2) Most cams like JWT seem to add 15-25hp on the TT cars....more with head porting and polishing.

3)N/A

4)Gauges are a must, clutch as well, bigger brakes are an idea, some sort of wideband monitor too just to keep an eye on things. APS TT comes with a return fuel system but if you want past 12lbs then maybe look at the CJ motorsports system.

Default APS add ons.

WRT to 4) the extras.

If you intend to track the car or drive in a hot climate.
You should also consider:

a) Low temp thermostat
b) Larger Koyo type radiator
c) Oil cooler.

All can help long term reliablity.

Also use a good synthetic motor oil. Such as Amsoil, RP , Redline etc.

My setup that Zcargarage did was very similar.

1) Nismo seems to flow fine. Although there are probably better ones.
2) 30hp gain by adding JWT cams on my setup, there shop care is tuned the same and makes 30hp less with all the same parts.
3)7K almost 8000miles
4)Upgraded Radiator, JWT clutch & Flywheel, Nismo Thermostat, Custom oil cooler.
5) Recommended insurance: Mix 100 oct to prevent Detonation or pinging (Almaden Express & Foxworthy 4.339gal) 2500 mile oil changes and frequent watching of oil level, Diff and tranny service to help aid the drivetrain. And cooling down before shutting off car.

I bet you and Rob could get a little more outta your rig with a Plenum upgrade. Crawford , Kinetix , APS etc. IMO

YEEEEEEEEEAh,

Even with out that they had to detune it. It was making more power! With the reliability ive seen from this kit maybe we'll just do that after the summer.

I feel the Plenum adds not only a little more power but additional safety margin from per cylinder detonation by improving the air distribution.

Yes, I'd like to know too as I'm planning to do the same. Where did you tap onto?

Oil Cooler?

Can I install a Nismo oil cooler with the APS TT kit?

I don't have pix unfortunately, It is mounted in my driver side fire wall. I have a piece of ABS plastic angled from next to the intercooler to route air into the firewall. Z car used a 300zx Twin turbo oil cooler. You can contact them if you have any more questions as i didn't work on any of that. My next mod is to get a oil temp or a water temp guage to add to my defi setup. Im thinking oil temp so i can see if the oil cooler actually helps a lot but Im not sure if the water temp might be more functional. I know both would be best but limited to 1 more guage.
