Default cutout for FI exhaust. opinions?

a buddy of mine who is well versed in turbo applications, is helping me decide, and work on my car. i recently purchased the APS single turbo and was looking for an exhaust since i know the stock one is rather restrictive. but my friend pointed me in this direction.

http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release091004.htm

its a boost activated, yes boost activated, no switch, valve that makes the exhaust completely free flowing, for $235, and an hour labor, i can have this thing welded into the exhaust in front of the resonator.

for much less than a new exhaust, i can have the sound of the stock exhaust, which i like, but also have the performance of a large open exhaust free of back pressure. turbos love that.

any thoughts? before i order one,

I would go with an electronic one. Just in case you want to get on boost at night without waking the neighbors or attracts cop's attention.

Cheap too.

then i would have to hit that button everytime i want it activated, and as quick as the aps system builds boost, id be hitting it all the time, i want the stock feel and sound as long as im not in boost, but as soon as boost builds i want it open. the sound is the same regardless of boost activated or electronic, just that the boost activated is quicker and less user involved.

Yeah I know. But it is going be LOUD. Like Harley LOUD. Do you want to be that loud everytime you build full boost?

Electronic switch just gives you the option of keeping it closed when you need to.

it will open dependent on boost, unless i hit full boost it wont open all the way. so driving around town and thru neighborhoods it shouldnt be too loud, unless i feel the need

I wonder how you do they control the valve with a boost controller.

Completely quiet and stock-like sounding during startup, idle, and cruising.
0 delay in valve response to boost, yet very smooth transition into boost mode.
Automatic open/close under boost using existing boost source on turbo engine and does not rely on wing nuts or electrical motors.
Integrate a boost controller to control when the valve opens or completely turn it off.
Addresses virtually all complaints associated with large 3” cat-back exhaust systems.

yeah just add a simple electronic boost controller on it and you're good if you don't want it open. The atp unit works like an internal wastegate.

I had an Electronic one on my old car and it opened pretty slow. Loud as hell but the extra power sure felt good.

I am installing 2 electric cutouts next week from QTP www.quicktimeperformance.com/qtec/ And if we can fit them in the factory cat location, we may sell them as a bolt in piece... not to jump the gun,, but its in the works,,, maybe!! Anyway, you can just buy a single one since you have the single exhaust anyway.... Yes, you would have to hit a switch to open, but you really only need it open if you are racing anyway.... Check it out and email me at jays350z@aol.com if you want more info...

How is this sudden change in back pressure going to affect the engine parameters of the car? Because our cars are very sensitive to A/F and timing under boost, I'm wondering if this will play hell with those variables as it opens. Because of valve overlap, I would imagine that the backpressure change will cause A/F to change.

Just thinking out loud.

We are actually going to re dyno the car with the open exhaust and re-tune if needed.... Should be within the enxt few weeks...

they open just like an internal wastegate, just run boost lines to it, it shouldnt affect AF, they are downstream from the o2 sensors.

I honestly don't think we'll see a difference in A/F since the tuning is based on boost, and the cutouts will affect the boost... Should pick up a few ponies though!! ;-)

With all due respect, you don't actually think an internet soundclip does any merit to the way an exhaust sounds do you? I honestly don't even see why soundclips are done, they end up never sounding like they do in person (unless professionally done).
