Default Blew my engine again.

Well as the title states. I blew my engine again. Well the first time i bent a rod and decided to get a new engine and stay at the stock boost. This wasnt too costly at all. Now this time it was totally different. I was driving normal in 5th gear going around 45 mph @2700 rpm when out of nowhere a huge pop i hear. I pulled over to the side and some people helped me push my car to the corner. Oil all over the place and i could see metal shavings underneath where the oil pan is. I had it towed to my local Z specialist shop and i had a huge hole in the block. Now this really p!sses me off. I was running stock boost since i got my new engine. No problems whatsoever for almost a year. I really think that the greddy kit is not a good kit for the Z at all. As etx stated,"they will all go its just a matter of time" i didnt want to believe that but it happened to me. Now i dont want to rebuild cause i dont have the time nor money to do this. So i will be getting a new engine, take the kit out, and run the car back to stock just when i originaly bought it.
For those of u thinking of going turbo i would highly recommend to go forged internals first. Do the build up then add the turbo kit. This sucks so i will be selling my turbo kit complete. If anyone is interested just let me know. This would be great for someone who is in the process of doing a build up and have not bouhgt a turbo kit yet.

Sorry to hear of your second loss, but I have a couple questions

Who installed it?

What extra safety measures had you added?

How many miles did you get on this engine?

Kit was installed at z car garage and the tune was just out of hte box emanage. Which already comes pretuned. Now do not start saying that z car garage is to blame because this is DEFINATELY not the case . They are a very reputable shop and this was just simply that the engine did not hold. I heard of another member who had the same thing happen to him while driving. So i believe its the greddy kit. Even at stock boost its not safe at all.

I had a total of around 10k miles on the engine. As for safety precautions, i would mix 8 gallons of 100 octane with 91. I never reved above 6000rpm. 2500miles oil change. Constantly monitoring oil level.

I dont think its the Kit . You said you was cruising at 45 mph at 2700rpm .So it couldnt be the kit . Did you have CAS wire hooked up ?

This is a well stated fact that most everyone here will agree on. Out of the box, Greddy is NOT safe....but a few small additions (fuel + Very Good tuning) will make the kit extremely safe at the 5.6psi setting.

I do not want to point fingers at you, but seeing all of these motors go (many at stock boost) should have made you get some custom work done to make it safer.

Wow, 10,000 miles is pretty decent actually...but babying it that way you should have never really seen this issue

I would think scattered timing would be a huge problem even if you're at stock boost.

Sorry to hear about your motor.

Well since greddy does not supply this CAS wire in their kit cant we say it was the kit. If they did supply it then it would be another issue.

There's a guy running the Greddy kit in the club I'm in. Right now he's having timing issues with the emanage. From what I understand it sounds like he's having scattered timing issues, and can't turn the boost up past stock settings without detonating like crazy.

Right now he told me he's running only about 3.5psi. I'm hoping they can get it fixed, and it only furthers my belief that a shielded CAS is a must.

Is a Cas wire that expensive to purchase and install? I would think it would be cheaper than rebuilding your motor w/ labor. APS is looking better and better.

The CAS wire is about $70 I believe from Phunk (Charles from CJM). It should only take an experienced tuner 45 min to 1 hr to install.

Sorry, I'll let you guys get this thread back on track now.

wait...you blew your motor previously, and rebuilt it with stock internals instead of forged internals. or did you just blow up a forged motor?

Is the CAS wire only a precaution 03's should take?
