anyone install these themselves? Is it a hard install? I am pretty comfortable working on cars but i have never done cams before. My biggest project is swapping motors and trans between two se-r 's. I have never really been inside the engine before.

If i can install myself i would probably be in.

installing cams on this car is very challenging, to say the least. All the accessories, the front cover, pulleys, rear cover, intake plenum, valve covers.

I would leave it to a shop, especially if they will offer you guys a GB on the installation.

NOTE: THIS CAM UPGRADE MAY REQUIRE THE IDLE RPM BE SET TO 850 RPM TO PREVENT POSSIBLE STALLING AT IDLE. 2004+ LEV II VEHICLES DO NOT ALLOW FOR IDLE ADJUSTMENT AND SHOULD NOT USE THESE CAMS UNLESS AN IDLE STABILIZING KIT IS INSTALLED (CALL JWT BEFORE INSTALL). LEV II PRODUCTION STARTS 10/03 FOR 350Z AND 6/03 FOR G35

from here

id call jwt 619 442 0680 and get the word straight from the horses mouth

Possible trick to get rpm up. Did a search to find this info.

" JWT trick, regarding splicing and T-ing off some vacuum lines to help the car's idle via more vacuum. Basically, what you are doing is splicing into the vacuum hose off the intake pipe/tube, and teeing it into the vacuum line off of the plenum by the Throttle body. This allows more vacuum to the motor, and as such helps stabalize the idle in cases, where the ECU just couldn't keep up. "

This kit will actually allow you to rev up to 7200 rpms without the fear of valve float. I actually have a new set of JWT springs and shims I won't be using so if anyone is interested let me know.

LOL I remember awhile back when I was first thinking of the cams Mossy in Oceanside wouldn't even do the install...but that was before Greg got there.

There is a stabalizer kit for the cams but it's not a 100% fix. When I went down to JWT and spoke to Jim and a tech named Ben, they let me know that this has fixed the idle issue with a few 04 models but not all. I know Tony, from performance nissan, installed his Nismo cams on an 04 and had to install the stabalizer kit in order for his Z to idle correctly, and I believe he is idling at about 1000rpms at the moment.

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/125757-nismo-camshaft-install-and-idle-issues-answered.html

Another thing is that Tony was able to use the consult tool to bump his RPMS up and then add the stabalizer kit, which accomplished the fix. So I'm not really sure if you actually need your car to be able to use the consult tool as well in order for the idle to be corrected, even with the stabalizer kit.

I know that a Z with a built date of 3/04 can use the consult, as it has been tried on mine, however, if you can't consult you might have a problem.

So what’s the word on the install GB? Is there a firm commitment on the price and who's doing the installs? Might be worth a trip to SD.

I am definately interested in getting some cams, springs and a $650 install. I am in L.A. -- can someone give me a bit more info? And will anyone in the L.A. match this install price? Otherwise, it may be worth a trip to S.D.
